Minutes for the May meeting were approved with minimal edits.
2. Farewell to Garry Rhodes
a. A pot luck dinner and gift was provided by CoD members in honor of Garry
Rhodes who is retiring from his position as the Lexington Building Inspector in July.
b. The CoD shared many "Garry stories" depicting the numerous accessibility
related issues he effortlessly championed and effectively resolved. His active
involvement in the CoD has enabled us to take quantum leaps forward with increasing
accessibility in Lexington. We truly appreciate all his efforts and wish him the very best
with his retirement plans.
c. We received an update on interviews from Janet Perry and Linda Vine on
candidates interviewed to date for the Building Inspector position. Due to the importance
of this position to the CoD, we would like to recommend that attending the CoD meetings
is added to the job description.
3. Accessibility Barriers in Public Buildings Mark Barrett, who works for Pat Goddard
went over itemized accessibility barriers identified during site visit for LHS, Diamond,
Harrington, and Hastings Schools and the Central Administration building. The budget
has been approved to make some of the improvements. A suggestion was made to leave
the items identified on the project plan and mark them as "completed" with dates to
provide a record of work that has been requested and completed.
4. Parking issues for businesses in Lexington who do not have accessibility spaces. We
learned that if it is an issue regarding a private property, it is handled by the Building
Inspector. If the issue is regarding a public property, it is forwarded to Linda Vine.
a. Dan Murphy sent a letter requesting the CoD look at several businesses in
Lexington who do not have accessibility spaces. Dan will be invited to attend one of the
CoD meetings to detail his request.
