LINCOLN PARK SUB- COMMITIEE - Minutes- June27,2012
Present- David Williams, Chairman,Brian Kelley, Lynne Wilson
Also present- Vanessa Tropeano, Parterre, Bob Barnard, Wesley Wirth,Landscape Architect,Bob
Pressman and Betsy Lawson
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm.
Brian Kelley reported that the dog signs would be installed shortly. Both Vanessa and Betsy said they
were pleased to see how many owners are picking up after their dogs.
Due to the fact that part of the bike path is being repaved, some of the walking /running circuit is closed.
There is an unapproved art installation in the woodland area which should come down.
Brian Kelley brought the committee up to date about the bathroom project. LUSK plus the Lexington
Youth Lacross Fund have donated $20,000. He has commitments for $120,000 which includes the
$75,000 committed by our committee. When he has $12S,000 in hand, he will be comfortable to start
construction. He has $25,000 from our committee and David Williams is waiting to move $50,000 into
income which will be the remainder of our commitment. David will send a letterto Fund for Lexington
to ask for a contribution to this project.
Bob Barnard and Vanessa Tropeano reported that the meadow has been cut. It should be cut twice a
year. Someone needs to follow up with DPW to get the Lincoln Park entrance mowed and mulched.
The hoses are at Nell Walker's house but, since there has been adequate rain, they have not been
needed. Weston Nurseries will replace 36 azaleas. Bob Barnard will plant them.
Wesley Wirth said that the plugs planted by Boy Scouts last year are doing well. He would like to add
1,000 plugs in the fall to include Joe Pye Weed and some summer plants. There was a question about
Bill Brumback spraying for invasives. No decision was made.
Vanessa Tropeano said that she had talked with Matt Foti about the birch borers in the grove. We need
to clear out the sick birches. Weak and dead trees will be knocked down and removed. We need deep
root fertilizer for larger ornamental and specimen trees. She will set up a base camp for the committee
to access on their computers. This will outline everything and will provide records of what work has
been done. There was a discussion about the possibility of setting up a website to have an online
presence. It is a possible senior high school project. She will start a compost pile in the area where thE!
wood chips have been stored.
Wesley explained about the drainage problems on the bike path at the curve, and will call Chris Filadore
of DPW to discuss this. It was suggested that Parterre do the invasive species spraying instead of Bill
Brumback. They are licensed and this will consolidate some of the maintenance.
Meetings were scheduled for July 18 and August 15. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40pm.
Respectfully submitted,
