<br />Present: CharesH, GeorgeB, NarainB, ShirleyS, SheldonS <br />Call to order: 7.30 PM <br /> <br />1. Schedule of meetings in Feb: 6th, 21st and 27th <br /> <br />2. Presentation by Tony Close of School Committee on Article 11 - <br />Improvements needed in Diamond <br /> <br />The need is to make acoustical improvements at Diamond in response to <br />an <br />order from Bureau of Education. He stated that the special-ed students <br />involved in this case were entitled to confidentiality. The proposal <br />is to <br />reduce ambient noise in five rooms including the auditorium. <br /> <br />The construction costs would be $869,999 plus design costs of $150,000. <br />School administration has no choice because of the nature of state <br />order. <br />The inclusion in the current school project would make it reimbursable <br />and <br />will provide contractor guarantees. Concerns surfaced about the costs <br />of <br />modifications needed at the high school in future. However, there <br />seems to <br />be no choice but to comply with the order now. <br /> <br />Other school capital items: In response to questions Tony stated that <br />technology costs of $250K per year were adequate although no detail <br />studies <br />had been done. Hastings to cost $25K for parking lot, $50K for walls <br />and <br />$50K for system wide repairs. Elementary school project was voted by <br />SC <br />for, one swing space, 2 new schools -- Harrington and Fiske and design <br />money <br />for 2 new ones -- Bowman and Eastabrook. There is a cap on school <br />building <br />costs of $173/sqft for reimbursement. <br /> <br />3. Assignments for report write up: <br />a. Charles: Town Building Envelope, Storm Sewer, Center Traffic Lights, <br />article 9 <br />b. Narain: DPW equipment, street improvements, side walks <br />c. Shirley: Pine Meadows, Playground, follow up articles 14, 15,24, <br />25, 26 <br />and Lincoln field <br />d. George: Articles 10, 11, 12 <br /> <br /> Minutes of 1/3/02 approved.
