CEC minutes - 7 November 2000 (approved)

The meeting was called to order at 7:34 PM by the chairman.

Four members of the committee were present: Tom Griffths (TG), Shirley
Stolz (SS), George Burnell (GB), and Charles Hornig (CH).

Visiting were Deborah Brown (Appropriations Committee) and John Ryan
and
Connie Rawson of the Finance Department.

The minutes of the meeting of 19 October 2000 were approved.

John Ryan and Connie Rawson presented the department's proposal to
replace both the town and school MIS systems with a new combined system
for $425,000. Major points discussed were:

- The town's current system is 10 years old. It meets the needs of
the
MIS department but not the rest of the staff. As it ages, it is getting
more difficult to find support for it.

- The schools' current system is 25 years old. It does not meet their
needs at all any more, and absolutely needs to be replaced. The schools
have heavy state-mandated reporting requirements.

The report of the Selectmen's Blue-Ribbon Capital Finance Advisory
Committee was distributed for discussion at our next meeting.

We don't yet have dates to meet with Conservation and the library. It
looks like it will be in December.

The Senior Center Siting Committee is down to six sites.

We do want to meet with the COA about the proposed Senior Center this
fall.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:07 PM. Minutes were taken and submitted
by Charles Hornig, clerk.
