<br />Minutes of Lexington Tree Committee <br />Meeting of September 11, 2008 <br /> <br />1. Anne Senning appointed as scribe. Minutes of August 21, 2008 amended and approved. <br /> <br />2. Present: John Frey, Chairman, Karen Longeteig, Jeanne Krieger, Selectman Liaison, <br />Jewel Kuljian, Gerry Paul, Anne Senning, Susan Solomon, Emerita, Nell Walker, Jim <br />Wood, Absent: David Pinsonneault, Tree Warden/Superintendent of Public Grounds. <br /> <br />3. Tree Warden/Superintendent of Public Grounds Report: <br /> a. Tree removal applications and activity: postponed until next month. <br /> b. Tree Inventory: Anne reported a 2008 total of 1,500 trees, 86% overall tree health is <br />good, 10% fair, and 4% poor. Three most common species are Norway maple 63%, Northern <br />Red oak 22%, Red maple 10 % and all other trees 5%. <br /> c. Fall Tree Planting locations: John, Nell, Karen, Jewel & Anne prepared 35 locations <br />for trees (Honeylocust ’Shademaster’, Silver linden ’Sterling’, Lacebark elm ‘Dynasty’, Green <br />ash, ‘Patmore’ London plane ‘Bloodgood’) to be planted this fall and 11 locations to be held in <br />reserve for oaks to be planted in spring 09 using the Potential Planting Areas report. <br /> d. Tree Nursery. Jim Wood reported that the nursery has been mowed and a volunteer <br />has been watering it other than himself and Barbara Kent. <br /> f. Homeowner Tree-planting Agreement draft: postponed until next month. <br /> g. Conservation Commission approval the use of bittersweet herbicide: Gerry reported <br />that on 9/9/08 the Conservation Commission approved the use of ‘painting’ specific herbicides <br />by a licensed DPW applicator for the eradication of bittersweet on Conservation lands: a <br />Conservation Commission project carried out by the Friends of Trees in cooperation with the <br />DPW and the Tree Committee. Two Bittersweet Eradication Days are scheduled for 9/20/08 & <br />10/25/08. <br />4. Asian long horn beetle: Potential threat to Lexington discussed. Jim Wood will research <br />problem and contact Worcester officials. Jeanne Krieger will discuss with town officials. <br />5. Coordination with engineering department concerning tree and sidewalk issues: Gerry will <br />make list of issues for discussion with Dave Cannon and distribute to Committee. <br />6. CAPC Meeting 9/9/08: Gerry reported initial representation. Continued presence of Tree <br />Committee important as CAPC focuses its mission. <br />7. J. Frey, G. Paul and A Senning were reappointed to the Tree Committee 9/8/08. <br />th <br />8. Tree Committee meetings moved to December 4, 2008 and January 15, 2009. <br />9.
