<br />Minutes-Lexington Tree Committee Meeting of June 14, 2007 <br /> <br />1. Member Markus Pinney was appointed scribe. <br />2. In Attendance at the Tree Committee Meeting: John Frey, Chairman; Members: <br />Anne Senning; Nell Walker; and Markus Pinney. David Pinsonneault, Tree <br />Warden; and, Jeanne Krieger, Selectmen. Summer Interns: Max Horn and David <br />Hattis. Jewel Kuljian, Friends of Trees (FOT) member. <br />3. Vote to approve May minutes of the Tree Committee. <br />4. Anne Senning gave a brief report on the Town Tree Inventory and introduced the <br />summer interns (noted above) who are conducting the tree inventory. <br />5. There followed a short discussion of the Tree Inventory. Issues discussed <br />included: how the inventory is conducted, successfully informing the public about <br />the inventory while working on town streets, work order process, and, <br />prioritization of trees in poor condition. <br />6. Jewel Kuljian gave a brief report and update on the activities and progress of the <br />FOT. They have helped secure 10-12 more trees for planting through the Garden <br />Club’s allocation vote of $1500 for planting. Representatives from 4 groups will <br />arrange a meeting to decide where the trees shall be planted, tentatively to <br />include: Tree Warden, David Pinsonneault (Town), Nell Walker (Tree <br />Committee), Anne Cuervo (Garden Club), Jewel (FOT). <br />7. Tree Warden Report: David Pinsonneault <br />7.1 506 total sites, 410 closed, Total applications for tree removal 597, with 474 <br />removed, Total trees to plant 1440, with 1064 planted. <br />7.2 Dave reported on two recent Public Shade Tree Hearing decisions (two trees <br />on Mass. Av. at Battle Green Inn and 4 trees on Mass. Av. Between Waltham <br />St. and the alley at Michelson’s Shoes) that have been appealed to the <br />Selectmen on the following Monday evening. Tree Committee members were <br />encouraged to appear. Members supported the Tree Warden’s <br />recommendation to allow removal of 4 trees, but try to save the largest <br />healthiest tree at the west end of each site. <br />7.3 Dave reported on the Tree Farm. Arborist Matt Foti, of Foti Tree, walked the <br />Tree Farm looking for evidence of winter moth. Mr. Foti proposed spraying <br />when necessary, placing collars around new saplings, and, performing <br />maintenance root pruning at no cost to the town. He is interested in using a <br />minor portion of the site to plant stock. <br /> <br />Tree Committee members debated the matter and, with conditions, voiced <br />agreement on the proposal. Conditions included: <br />a) requesting Dave to keep the TC regularly informed, <br />b) it should be determined that town needs for planting space are not <br /> <br />
