<br />Minutes August 10, 2006 Lexington Tree Committee Lexington, Massachusetts <br /> <br />Present: John Frey, Chair, Susan Solomon, Gerry Paul, Nell Walker, Anne Senning, Karen <br />Longeteig, Jim Wood, Jeanne Krieger, Visitor Pamela Lyons <br /> <br />1 . Jim Wood was appointed scribe and the minutes of July 13, 2006 were approved as modified. <br />1A. John Frey will prepare a letter to the Board of Selectmen(copies to Craig Weeks & Bill <br />Hadley) regarding the center sidewalk as follows: Recommend soft base, Structural Soil, and <br />brick for the center sidewalk. Committee voted unanimously on a resolution to write and send this <br />letter. <br />2a.Tree removal applications and activity-No Report <br /> b. Tree removal Proposals-28 Mason Street, (Chapter 87 hearing 8/8/06) Marrett Rd/Waltham St. <br />intersection-Not discussed <br />3. Memorial Tree Status: No action. Dates for planting memorial trees 2&3 and date for the <br />removal of the dead tree on the Green are unknown. <br />4. Planning Board By-Law Recommendation-Modified recommended by-law to require a Tree <br />Management Plan when a developer/owner requests a special permit from the Lexington Planning <br />Board. Karen Longeteig will submit the recommendation to the Planning Board. Additional <br />discussion was held on how this would dove tail with the Lexington Tree Manual. <br />5.Motion was made and unanimously approved to credit Dan Cohen for special editing of the <br />Videotapes of the lecture series. <br />6. Planning and Education Grant Progress: <br />a. Mailer-copies still available <br />b. Lecture Series-Sue Solomon will do the publicity for Bill Cullina’s 9/13/06 lecture <br />c. Inventory-Belfry Park inventory completed. Anne Senning has completed a draft report <br />on three distinct areas that have been inventoried. Many thanks to Anne for her hard work <br />and dedication in accomplishing these tasks. <br />6A. A Sugar Maple was taken down on Belfry Hill. At the next meeting we will ask Dave <br />Pinsonneault why this tree was removed. <br />7. Long Term Tree Committee Strategy. Gerry Paul will bring minutes from these meetings for <br />the complete Tree Committee to review and approve. <br />8. Memorial Trees: Tree Committee (Sue Solomon) to develop and send out one page <br />biographical recommendation for persons buying Memorial Trees to follow. <br />9. Memorial Tree Book”Lexington Commemorative Trees” Jim Wood to get the book embossed. <br />10. Tree Nursery-The Conservation Commission has requested a Tree Nursery Plan. Jim Wood <br />will prepare a plan and bring it to the September14th Tree Committee meeting for review and <br />approval. <br />11. Tree Talk Articles for the Newspaper. We need to get started on this effort again. Anne <br />suggested focusing on Native trees as Street trees. Jim Wood owes an article on funding <br />difficulties, override impact and Town Meeting indifference to Public Trees. <br />12. Tree Revolving Fund Status: No report-Jim Wood to find out balance for next meeting. <br />13. Tree Committee reappointments: Nell Walker and Karen Longeteig will accept <br />reappointments. <br />14.Review of mulching, weed barrier and tree planting issues on Bikeway slope of the “CVS” <br />parking area. Jeanne Krieger will explore the interface between the Tree Committee and DPW <br />with Carl Valente.
