<br />Minutes July 13, 2006 Lexington Tree Committee Lexington, Massachusetts <br /> <br />Present: John Frey, Chair; Jim Jones; Karen Longeteig; Gerry Paul; David Pinsonneault, Superintendent <br />of Public Grounds; Anne Senning; Susan Solomon, Emeritus; Nell Walker; Jim Wood; Jeanne Krieger, <br />Selectman liaison; Karen Zallen, visitor <br /> <br />1. Scribe and minutes. Jim Jones was appointed scribe. The amended minutes of May 11, 2006 and the <br />minutes of June 8, 2006 were approved. <br /> <br />2. J. Jones announced his intention of resigning, effective in October 2006. <br /> <br />3. Report Under the Tree Bylaw. Dave reported that 453 sites have been visited, of which 306 are closed. <br />A total of 1257 trees require replanting, of which 536 have been planted. A total of 531 trees have been <br />approved for removal, of which 244 have been removed. <br /> <br />4. Tree removal proposals: <br /> 177 Grove St. There appears to be no obvious leverage to restrict tree removal. However, the <br />Committee will convey its concern to the Planning Board. <br /> 3 Ellison Rd. Karen Zallen, an abutter of the house being constructed at 87 School Street, expressed <br />her concerns over the removal of trees from the construction site, and her hope that a threatened tree <br />could be protected. D. Pinsonneault has taken steps, including the planting of 5 remediation trees. <br /> Waltham St. – Marrett Rd. intersection. The Committee will present its views to the Planning Board <br />concerning the changes planned. <br /> <br />5. Dave presented proposed changes to the By-law. A subcommittee, at present composed of K. <br />Longeteig and A. Senning, will evaluate the changes and report to the Committee. <br /> <br />6. A motion was made and passed to use the replanting money that has been approved to fulfill existing <br />planting commitments, with the excess to be used at the Committee’s discretion. <br /> <br />7. The next meeting of the Planning subcommittee is scheduled for 9:00 am, Aug. 17, in the Selectman’s <br />Meeting Room at the Town Hall. <br /> <br />8. A Scarlet Oak will be planted in August as the second Memorial Tree. The third will be a Red Maple, <br />to be located on the bicycle path near Buckman Tavern. S. Solomon will coordinate the activities of the <br />Commemorative Tree Program. <br /> <br />9. The program for videotaping the Lecture Series is awaiting further input. <br /> <br />10. Inventory: A. Senning has talked to Tom Brown, coordinator of LABBB, about student volunteers <br />for the inventory. She will continue as liaison. <br /> <br />11. J. Wood reported on a proposed Memorial Tree book, recommending a leather-bound three-ring <br />binder, embossed with the words ‘Lexington Commemorative Trees’. <br /> <br />12. Tree Farm: The Conservation Committee will meet at the site to evaluate it on Saturday 7/15 at 9:30 <br />am. They hope that Tree Committee members will join them. <br /> <br />13. J. Wood distributed a report on the status of the Tree Revolving Fund. <br /> <br />14. Next Tree Committee Meeting, August 10, 2006, 7:30 a.m. <br />
