TreeMINUTES7-14-05
Minutes July 14, 2005 Lexington Tree Committee, Lexington, MA

Present: John Frey, Chairman; Jim Jones; Karen Longeteig; Anne Senning;
Susan Solomon; Nell Walker. Guest: Gerry Paul

1. J. Jones was named as scribe.

2. The minutes of June 9 were accepted.

3. N. Walker will ask Wayne Brook about the watering of the newly
planted trees on the bike path in D. Pinsonneault’s absence. Ongoing
watering seems to have been effective in keeping the trees healthy.

4. The Planning and Education grant is almost ready for submission.
Strong letters of support have been received from Belmont, Waltham, and Arlington.
If a lecture series is initiated, it should not conflict with other activities, such
as Lexington Reads.

5. Operating instructions for the iPod were distributed by K. Longeteig
and A. Senning. Training session will be scheduled. D. Pinsonneault to
be asked if the backpack can be stored at the Town Office building.

6. A presentation was made by J. Frey, K. Longeteig and A. Senning on
the benefits of trees at the Sidewalk Committee meeting on June 27. G. Paul
volunteered to talk to the Planning Board on the issue of Lexington trees.

7. J. Frey and K. Longeteig attended the Center Collaborative charrette
on 6/11 and found it useful.

8. The question was raised whether the Tree Committee should take part
in the Lexington Farmer’s Market. J. Frey will contact Sonia deMarta.

9. K. Longeteig was appointed Chair for the August meeting in J. Frey’s absence.

10. J. Jones reported on the distribution of Memorial Tree Fund brochures.
The brochures were readily accepted, though the Cemetery Office had
Questions, since they have their own tree-planting program.

Next regular meeting is August 11, 2005 in Room 111 at 7:30 AM
