Solomon, N. Walker, J. Wood & J. Krieger
(Selectman Representative)
1. Minutes of the April 14 meeting were not available.
2. Tree Removal Activity: (D. Pinsonneault) Total calls received: 311. Resolved: 204. New trees required: 899. New
trees planted: 377. Approved to be removed: 393. Removed: 166 (90% on setback). Town activity since Jan., 2005:
Removed: 31. Pruned: 33. Treated: 20. Planted: 5.
3. Memorial Brochure: The brochure was approved by the Selectmen. Its publication cost is to come from the DPW
budget. K. Longeteig will take the disk to Wales and order 300 copies. The brochures are to be available at the Library,
DPW Barn, Town Office Building and as an attachment to those on the TMMA E-mail list.
4. Revolving Fund Account: Establishment awaits the Attorney General’s approval (expected in Aug., ‘05). A. Field
(Trustee of Public Trusts Chair) agrees that an independent fund is most appropriate. The fund must accumulate
$5,000 before the Town can accept it. It was proposed that J. Wood would establish an interim bank account and that
S. Solomon would be cosigner. This plan was unanimously accepted. Large donations from the business community
will be actively sought.
5. Tree Inventory: (A. Senning & K. Longeteig)
a) Inventory will proceed within budget constraints, starting in June, as no funds or personnel for data conversion
to GIS are available now. D. Pinsonneault has a data base of trees needing attention. DPW staff will inspect
these trees, note those in need of work, generate the appropriate work orders and coordinate with the
Inventory Subcommittee.
b) An Education Grant will be sought to expand the Inventory. Volunteers will work with DPW to transfer data and
download information during the DPW lunch hour. Two teams (AM & PM) can use one iPod efficiently.
c) Planned training sessions: June 18 @ the Library (if available) and June 15 @ 7:30 PM, DPW Office.
6. Tree City USA: Twelve signs were ordered.
7. Lexington Arbor Day: Four trees were planted at the Depot in memory of LF&GC members who died in 2005.
Seedlings were distributed to attending children. The event was well attended.
8. Bikeway: A Mass ReLeaf Grant will support planting on June 4. Twenty to forty volunteers will be needed. The area
near the CVS is recommended. Irrigation pipes will be put in tree holes during tree planting.
9. ReLeaf Grants: The (Karen’s) meeting with J. Calvin (State) was very helpful in applying for Grants. It was
recommended that we plant in heavily traveled and highly visible areas. Two ReLeaf Grant trees at Rindge Park were
vandalized. One was replanted and one was repaired.
10. Remaining Agenda items were postponed. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
Next meeting: Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 7:30 AM in Rm. 111, Town Office Bldg.
Respectfully submitted:

Susan Snell Solomon
