<br />Minutes October 14, 2004 <br />Lexington Town Tree Committee <br />Lexington, MA <br /> <br />Present: John Frey, Chairman, Jim Jones, Karen Longeteig, Susan Solomon, Anne Senning, Scribe, David <br />Pinnsoneault, Superintendent Public Grounds. Absent: Nell Walker, Jim Wood, Jeanne Krieger, Selectmen Liaison <br /> <br />Minutes of 9/9/04 meeting accepted. <br /> <br />Minutes of 9/16/04 meeting will be emailed or sent to all committee members. They had been sent to John but his <br />e-mail was down. <br /> <br />Report by John Frey from Board of Selectmen Committee Chair Meeting 10/13/04. Open Meeting Laws: Meeting <br />announcements should be posted in advance. Emails should be used for information only. Working sessions should <br />be less than a quorum (4). Records should be brief, but include all actions. Use of town counsel is discouraged; <br />committees should work through their committee liaisons. Warrant articles are due by December 31, 2004, but <br />should be submitted as early as possible. <br /> <br />Report from David Pinnsoneault, Superintendent of Public Grounds <br />Since October 1, 2001 there have been 216 calls. 141 were resolved, i.e. either no trees were effected or they met <br />the requirements of the by law. 316 trees were approved for removal. 724 trees required to be replanted. <br />In the Forestry Division, since January 1, 2004, 98 trees were removed, 100 trees were pruned, 17 trees were <br />planted, 3 trees were treated. <br />Email from Greg Shenstone was discussed. D Pinnsoneault will follow up on this matter. <br /> <br />Report by John Frey on Meeting with Dawn McKenna, John Frey and Jim Wood. Suggestion was made that <br />funding for the initial phase of the Tree Inventory come from the Town DPW and MIS budgets as it primarily <br />comes under those areas. <br /> <br />Report by Anne Senning on the 9/23/04 meeting at Tufts with Denise Castronovo and Sherri Brokopp of the <br />Community Forest Partnership, Jim Jones, John Frey, Karen Longeteig and Anne Senning of the Lexington Tree <br />Committee. Reviewed levels of ESRI software, transfer of files from CAD to GIS, and the continuing CFP / <br />Lexington Partnership. <br /> <br />Report by Karen Longeteig on Tree Identification Training Sessions 9/29/04, 10/5/04. Two sessions were held in <br />which participants identified specimens of branches with leaves with the help of several books and human <br />resources. Training session for measuring took place 10/11/04 with Jesse from CFP. Second scheduled 10/14/04 <br />with Sherri from CFP. <br /> <br />Report by Anne Senning on 10/05/04 meeting, Kathy Miller, Matt Perry, New England ESRI representatives, <br />Connie Rawson, David Bordenca, Jan Comey, MIS department, David Pinnsoneault, DPW, Peter Karalexis, <br />Engineering department, John Frey, Susan Solomon, Anne Senning, Tree Committee, Sherri Brokopp, Community <br />Forest Partnership. Issues: Tree inventory project, license cost and CFP grant, Lexington AutoCAD layers, <br />projected completion 3/2005, conversion to GIS, level of ESRI software needed for Lexington, cost, timing of <br />installation, integration with existing software. <br /> <br />Discussion of supplies for four Inventory kits instead of two since a paper survey will be done for the pilot project <br />this fall. <br />Memorial Tree Brochure. Report by Karen Longeteig that brochure is on hold until Jeanne Krieger’s report about <br />funding mechanism for the Selectmen’s Tree Gift. <br />Committee voted to send two Tree Manuals to Newburyport Tree Committee. <br />Next meeting November 18, 2004 (postponed from our expected date of November 11 because of the holiday on <br />that day.) <br />Submitted by Anne Senning <br />
