<br />Minutes - Lexington Tree Committee <br />May 8, 2003 @ 7:30 AM <br /> <br />Town Office Building: Rm. 111 <br />Attendance: J. Frey, K. Longeteig, P. Mazerall, D. Pinsonneault, A. Senning and S. Solomon and <br /> <br />J. Kreiger (Selectman) <br /> <br />1. Minutes of the April 10 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />2. Tree Removal Application: <br /> a) No new requests. <br /> b) Two trees that were removed on Burlington St. were hazards (located on town right-of- <br /> <br />way). <br />3. Grants: <br /> a) The state will send notifications by the end of the month. <br /> b) How are the manual printing cost to be funded? <br /> Get quotes from local printers (Longeteig & Solomon). <br /> <br /> c) A tree survey might get a state grant with matching funds from Town Meeting. <br />4. Report from Tower Hill Symposium: <br /> <br /> It was an excellent conference --- its printed materials are circulating. <br /> <br />5. Lexington Toyota: The pear trees are in full bloom; they have not been removed. <br />6. Tree Manual: <br /> a) Suggested that the Lions Club be approached for funding. (Mazerall) <br /> b) Contest in Schools for cover? Rejected because of time factor. <br /> c) Front cover will feature "proper planting of a tree" graphic. <br /> d) Adding chapter 87 text will add 2 - 3 pages. <br /> e) Distribution at Libraries and Town Office Building suggested. <br /> <br /> Distribution via town-wide mailing rejected because of postage expense. <br />7. LHS: <br /> a) The quad is transformed and ‘looks great’. <br /> b) Approximately 70 volunteers worked to beautify the area. <br /> c) Flowers are currently blooming. <br /> <br /> d) Planted stress and drought tolerant elm instead of pear. <br />6.
