Minutes of June 13 meeting: approved as submitted <br /> <br /> 2. Tree planting report by David Pinnsonneault <br /> <br /> a) Parker Street replanted with sugar maples, dogwood, cherry, etc. <br /> Kinnen Park and Follen Road also planted, by Foti & Co. <br /> These trees will be watered as part of the contract <br /> 30-32 trees will wait for planting in the fall <br /> b) 140 trees removed, 60 replanted <br /> c) Funding for new plantings this fiscal year lost because of referendum defeat of PAYT <br /> d) Bylaw: 56 applications, 103 removed, 220 replaced <br /> <br /> 3. Mass. Re-Leaf grant: no decisions made yet <br /> $5000 requested for Belfry and School Administration Area <br /> <br /> 4. Future requests <br /> Fiscal Year 2003 is an override year for the operating budget, (J. Krieger) <br /> Consistent funding needed to close gap and tree deficit <br /> VOTED: to request $50,000 as a yearly line item on the DPW budget <br /> <br /> 5. Draft of tree donation brochure circulated for review (Karen Longeteig) at next meeting <br /> Discussion about appropriate signage <br /> Susan Solomon is to call J. Gschwendtner for Historic District Committee reaction <br /> Memorial book to be maintained at Town Hall <br /> <br /> 6. Public relations efforts <br /> Lexington High School brochure duly appreciated (Karen Longeteig) <br /> Lexington Minute Man article on Emery Park being readied (Nell Walker and Karen Longeteig) <br /> <br /> 7. Tree inventory options <br /> <br /> a) The need to identify open space and species for proper management and maintenance was stressed <br /> b) Brochures from Davey were circulated; other companies are available <br /> c) How to appropriate moneys is a big issue; 3 bids are needed; capital budget versus operating budget; <br /> talk to financial committees early in the process (John Frey) <br /> <br /> 8. Draft outline of tree manual circulated <br /> Karen Longeteig requested that "Invasive Species" be added as a chapter heading. Still a work in progress. <br /> <br /> 9. A tree web site was mentioned as a possibility, on the Town of Lexington site or on the Town Meeting <br /> Members Association site <br /> <br /> 10.
