<br />Minutes - Lexington Town Tree Committee <br />LEXINGTON TREE COMMITTEE <br />Minutes, May 9, 2002 meeting <br />Room G-15, Town Office Building <br /> <br />Attendance: Frey, Griscom, Mazerall, Solomon, Walker, Wood, Selectman Jeanne Krieger <br /> <br />1. Minutes to be revised and e-mailed as soon as possible, to include minor corrections <br /> <br />2. Unanimous vote to move for recommendation of line item 2004 under Article #4 at next appropriate session of Town <br />Meeting <br /> <br /> a) Cut request from $25,000 to $15,000 <br /> b) Request funding not be from free cash, to satisfy the Appropriations Committee; suggest that $18,000 be transferred <br />from the "trolley grant" etc. <br /> c) Nell Walker has prepared slides/handout <br /> d) Paul Mazerall suggests purchasing smaller (2") trees <br /> cheaper <br /> better survival <br /> e) Stress mortality rate (102 cut, 2 planted) <br /> <br />3. Guest Ingrid Klimoff urged support for PAYT <br /> <br /> monies earned could restore monies cut from the tree appropriation <br /> suggestions: Minute Man column, "Trees Need Help" <br /> institutionalize yearly expenditure <br /> need more public relations efforts <br /> coordinate with other groups <br /> (CLC, League of Women voters, Lexington Field and <br /> Garden Club suggested) <br /> <br /> Jeanne Krieger said that there would be a 2004 operating budget <br /> override to create a tax base; a groundswell would be needed <br /> to support trees; tap resources for public enthusiasm and appreciate benefits <br /> <br /> Nell Walker: unique and champion tree campaign or contest <br /> <br />4. Discussion regarding town meeting member suggestion re transplanting <br /> trees from property owners' yards, and use of volunteers <br /> <br /> Paul Mazerall suggested that the town tree nursery on Hartwell Avenue be reinstated <br /> <br />5. Concerns were expressed that David Pinsonneault has missed the last 3 meetings <br /> <br /> a) consider establishing a separate Tree Division <br /> b) DPW must be enlisted to aid our cause; contact Brian Gilbert and Bill Hadley (John Frey) <br /> c) need record of trees planted, where and what species <br /> d) the Tree Committee should be allowed to review planting contracts <br /> <br />6. Jo Griscom is taking the GPS course at the high school <br /> <br />7. The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 AM <br /> <br />8.
