<br />MINUTES LEXINGTON TREE COMMITTEE, MARCH 14, 2002 <br />Attendance: Frey, Solomon, Walker, Wood Town officials: Krieger, Pinsonneault <br /> <br />1) Review, modification and approval of minutes of February 14 meeting: <br /> <br />Clarification of money requested in Warrant Article #12 <br />Two line items; will be presented as two separate items, under Forestry Dept requests; <br />$20,000 and $15,000 (tree inventory and tree plantings) <br /> <br /> Article #12 indefinitely postponed and moved to Article #4 <br /> <br />2) Mass ReLeaf grant application, a “done deal” <br /> <br />a) Proposal for $4800 matching grant will be mailed March 15, 2002 <br /> Frey, Wood and Pinsonneault were the authors <br /> Three letters of support will accompany the document <br /> Lexington Field and Garden Club <br />Conservation Commission <br />Tree Committee <br /> Recommended locations: Old Belfry, Fletcher/Mass. Ave. <br /> <br />b) Wood reported that the Tree City Forum is scheduled for April 11 in Springfield <br />(agenda attached) <br /> Frey and Pinsonneault and possibly Bill Hadley to attend to receive award <br />certification and attend seminars <br /> <br />3) Town Meeting action <br /> <br />a) Report under Article #2: James Wood (our only town meeting member) will speak <br />on the need for a tree inventory as a management tool <br /> <br />b) Line up speakers to support this: CLC, Conservation Commission, Lexington <br />Field and Garden Club, League of Women Voters (Susan Solomon to call) <br />c) John Frey to meet with Richard White on the importance of this and to discuss <br />possible support strategy <br /> <br />4) Review of Bylaw calls and visits since 1 October 2001: <br />31 sites visited, 71 trees cut, 143 replacements required <br />Hancock Avenue: trees diseased, town will replace (private property) <br /> <br />5) Tree Manual <br />Nell Walker gave the amended draft to John for circulation to the entire committee for <br />later discussion. <br /> <br />6) Other business <br /> Nell Walker: excellent picture of what not to do when planting a tree; excess mulch will <br />speed its demise <br /> <br />7) Next meeting: April 11, 2002, 7:30 AM, Room G-15 <br />(those going to the Tree City Forum in Springfield will leave after the meeting) <br /> <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Susan Snell Solomon, Secretary <br /> <br />
