GREENWAYS CORRIDOR COMMITTEE <br />Members: 7-9 <br />Appointed by: Board of Selectmen <br />Length of Term: 3 years, staggered <br />Appointments Made: September 30 <br />Meeting Time: 3rd Monday, Monthly <br />The Greenways Corridor Committee is charged with identifying, actively planning, and recommending <br />the implementation of pedestrian, bicycle and other greenways corridors linking Town Conservation, <br />Recreation and other open space parcels along with the establishment of links to regional trail systems <br />and open space in neighboring communities. In pursuit of these duties and responsibilities the committee <br />shall: <br />Work with Town Departments, Boards and Committees, <br />Maintain contacts with regional planning authorities and civic groups from neighboring <br />communities, <br />• Pursue public educational efforts and activities. <br />To facilitate implementation of approved greenways corridors the committee shall initiate/recommend <br />funding requests to Town officials that may be available through governmental sources (regional, state <br />and federal), nongovernmental organizations, and private sources as needed. <br />To facilitate its efforts, the Committee requests the appointment of liaisons from Selectmen, <br />Conservation, Recreation, and Planning. The Committee also requests access to the Town's GIS <br />capability in undertaking its tasks. <br />Membership: Members should have a commitment to the importance to the community of developing <br />off-road pedestrian and bicycle corridors as well as the environmental benefits of preserving greenway <br />corridor connections between disparate conservation parcels. Appointments should be made to ensure <br />broad community representation. Membership should include representatives from groups such as the <br />Conservation Stewards, Citizens for Lexington Conservation, and Friends of Lexington Bikeways. The <br />Sidewalk and Bicycle Advisory Committee should also be represented. <br />Criteria: Prior to serving as a member of this Committee, appointees are required to: <br />1. Acknowledge receipt of the Summary of the Conflict of Interest Statute. Further, to continue to serve <br />on the Committee the member must acknowledge annually receipt of the Summary of the Conflict of <br />Interest Statute. Said summary will be provided by and acknowledged to the Town Clerk. <br />2. Provide evidence to the Town Clerk that the appointee has completed the on-line training requirement <br />required by the Conflict of Interest statute. Further, to continue to serve on the Committee, the member <br />must acknowledge every two years completion of the on-line training requirement. <br />Ref.: At its meeting on January 31, 2011, the Selectmen adopted the charge and designated all appointed <br />members of the Greenways Corridor Committee as Special Municipal Employees. <br />
