Lexington Board of Health Meeting, June 22, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA Board of Health Attendees: Wendy Heiger - Bernays, Chair; David S. Geller; John J. Flynn; Sharon MacKenzie Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director; Ann Belliveau, Health Clerk/Office Manager Wendy Heiger - Bernays called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The Board reviewed the minutes of May 11, 2011. MacKenzie motioned to accept the minutes with corrections. Heiger - Bernays seconded. All approved. Community Health Updates / Reports Community Health Report — Cody reviewed the Community Health Report prepared by David Neylon, R.N., and all follow -ups had been done in a timely manner. Cody elaborated about an active TB case. Environmental Health Update /Reports Environmental Health Report — The Board reviewed the Environmental Health Report prepared by Kathy Fox. State Sanitary Code Case Review — The Board reviewed the State Sanitary Code Case Review. a) Pool Variance Requests — Perlmutter motioned that the Lexington Board of Health grants the variance request from the requirement of lifeguards for the safe operation of pools as listed under 105 CMR 435.23 (1). In addition, all the requirements of 105 CMR 435.23 (2) shall be met including all signage which includes: "Warning No Lifeguard on Duty" in easy to read, legible letters which are at least four inches high "Children under age 16 should not use swimming pool without an adult in attendance" and another sign that states, "Adults should not swim alone ". This variance applies only to the following seasonal pool facilities, which have made the request in writing. They are listed as follows: Five Fields Pool Starwoods Hotel — Aloft and Element Pools This variance will expire at the end of the seasonal pool season or upon notification of an unsafe operating condition at a specific facility. Heiger - Bernays seconded. All approved. 108 Bow Street — Cody was advised by Barry Kutz, Electrical Inspector, of some electrical issues at 108 Bow Street. Cody was able to prepare an order to correct and all issues were corrected. 94 Hartwell — Cody explained that there has been a history at Waxy O'Connors of grease runoff into the wetland area. Order to correct letters were sent from both the Health Dept. and Conservation Dept. A plan has been approved by Conservation and now the grease may be cleaned up.
