Lexington Board of Health Meeting, June 22, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. <br />Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall <br />1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA <br />Board of Health Attendees: Wendy Heiger - Bernays, Chair; David S. Geller; John J. Flynn; <br />Sharon MacKenzie <br />Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director; Ann Belliveau, Health <br />Clerk/Office Manager <br />Wendy Heiger - Bernays called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />The Board reviewed the minutes of May 11, 2011. MacKenzie motioned to accept the <br />minutes with corrections. Heiger - Bernays seconded. All approved. <br />Community Health Updates / Reports <br />Community Health Report — Cody reviewed the Community Health Report prepared by <br />David Neylon, R.N., and all follow -ups had been done in a timely manner. Cody <br />elaborated about an active TB case. <br />Environmental Health Update /Reports <br />Environmental Health Report — The Board reviewed the Environmental Health Report <br />prepared by Kathy Fox. <br />State Sanitary Code Case Review — The Board reviewed the State Sanitary Code Case <br />Review. <br />a) Pool Variance Requests — Perlmutter motioned that the Lexington Board of Health <br />grants the variance request from the requirement of lifeguards for the safe operation <br />of pools as listed under 105 CMR 435.23 (1). In addition, all the requirements of <br />105 CMR 435.23 (2) shall be met including all signage which includes: "Warning <br />No Lifeguard on Duty" in easy to read, legible letters which are at least four inches <br />high "Children under age 16 should not use swimming pool without an adult in <br />attendance" and another sign that states, "Adults should not swim alone ". This <br />variance applies only to the following seasonal pool facilities, which have made the <br />request in writing. They are listed as follows: <br />Five Fields Pool <br />Starwoods Hotel — Aloft and Element Pools <br />This variance will expire at the end of the seasonal pool season or upon notification of an <br />unsafe operating condition at a specific facility. Heiger - Bernays seconded. All approved. <br />108 Bow Street — Cody was advised by Barry Kutz, Electrical Inspector, of some <br />electrical issues at 108 Bow Street. Cody was able to prepare an order to correct <br />and all issues were corrected. <br />94 Hartwell — Cody explained that there has been a history at Waxy O'Connors of <br />grease runoff into the wetland area. Order to correct letters were sent from both the <br />Health Dept. and Conservation Dept. A plan has been approved by Conservation <br />and now the grease may be cleaned up. <br />
