Richard Canale noted that the guidelines apply to about 30%
of the new sidewalks in town, given that sidewalks also are installed due to traffic calming,
commercial developments, etc. Citizens should be made aware that there other options to
apply for a sidewalk, not just through the SWC petition process. Jerry Van Hook stated
that, even if there are different ways, as an advisory committee to the Board of Selectmen,
the SWC assumes that it will be informed if new sidewalks are being considered, no matter
the means by which they will be requested.
Changes to the current draft were: The title of the document was changed from Resident
Guidelines for Requesting New Sidewalk Installations to Resident Guidelines for
Requesting New Sidewalks. In item 3, the last sentence "If the Selectman think the project
has merit, preliminary inquiries may follow" was struck. Items 6 and 9 will be made into
action items. Pending these changes, the guidelines were approved by the Committee.
3. No one knows if this sign was from 2011 or 2010.
Mark Valenti will check on this. He noted that the project is managed by Mass DOT and
will be built according to their specifications and timetable.
5.
