<br /> <br />th <br />Lexington 300 Anniversary Celebration Committee <br />Selectmen’s Meeting Room, Town Office Building <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 21, 2010 <br /> <br />Attending: Susan Rockwell, Donna Hooper, Richard Kollen, Van Seasholes, <br />Denise Dube, Suzie Barry, Cindy Savage <br />Absent: Jessie Steigerwald; <br /> <br />The Lexington 300 Anniversary Celebration Committee met at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, <br />th <br />September 21, 2010, to receive public input on celebrating the 300 Anniversary of the <br />th <br />Incorporation of the town of Lexington. <br /> <br /> representing community organizations, public boards and <br />Approximately 25 persons <br />committees, and municipal government were in attendance. <br /> <br />th <br />Lexington 300 Anniversary Celebration Committee Chairperson Sue Rockwell offered <br />welcoming comments, introduced Committee members, and provided a brief overview of <br />purpose of Committee and the evening’s gathering. <br /> <br />Committee member Richard Kollen provided a video presentation of highlights and key <br />events in Lexington’s 300 year history. Following Mr. Kollen’s presentation comments <br />th <br />and suggestions for celebrating the 300 Anniversary of Lexington’s incorporation were <br />invited from those in attendance. <br /> <br />Comments/Suggestions: <br />1. Master Calendar be created <br />2. Create email subscription to get information out to those interested, <br />maximize use of web site <br />3. Avoid conflicting use of facilities (T. Morissette) <br />4. Who will orchestrate the ‘incorporation weekend’ events for March 2013? (S. <br />Bennett) <br />5. Time Capsule – Stanley Abkowitz offered donation through his Burlington, <br />MA company. <br />6. Consider opportunities for grants (Adams Art], economic development <br />beyond Lexington residents [D. McKenna] <br />7. Lexington Education Foundation, Farmers Market & Dance Inn – Trivia Bee <br />normally held for 2012-2-13 LEF fundraising can be designed around <br />questions on the history of Lexington; Annual recital for Dance Inn <br />8. Cary Library Foundation – Elizabeth Dickenson] – ‘Lexington Reads’ theme <br />for community book reading could be centered around this celebration; <br />Stanley Abkowitz suggested featuring Lexington authors. <br />9. Lexington Pops – [Sue Austen] January & May performances, commissioning <br />a piece for May concert <br />10. Hayden Recreation Centre – National Sendoff mid March/April <br />11. Safe Routes to School/Sidewalks – theme – history of Lexington <br />transportation <br />12. LWV/Education – Lexington Education Foundation funding a multi-year <br />grant for in-depth curriculum work for Lexington students; web site for <br />teachers [Barbara Manfredi] <br />13. Lexington Symphony – Composition competition, soliciting compositions <br />from 2 age groups to compose a piece for the celebration [Liz Field] <br />14. Old-time sports – [Bill Poole] – it would be fun to have an old-time sports <br />event(s) <br />15.
