Donna Hooper
From:
Tanya Morrisett [tmorrisett@gmail.com]
Sent:
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 10:31 AM
To:
committee@lexington300.us
Cc:
"Bill Mix"
Subject:
300th Proposal - William Diamond Jr. Fife & Drum Corps
Dear 300th Committee,

On behalf of the William Diamond Jr. Fife and Drum Corps, I would like to propose the
following event to celebrate Lexington's 300th. Our idea highlights the musical history of
Lexington and America for our residents and visitors in a way that is uniquely Lexington.

On a Saturday during September or October of 2012, we propose to hold a musical "faire" or
Muster on the Green or by the Visitors' Center. This would be similar to what we do annually in
May at the National Park, but on a smaller scale. Also, it would be invitational.

We would invite fife and drum corps from New England to come play for our town. Here's the
catch - each would represent a different time period in our town's history. The corps invited
would be ones with superlative musical ability, would play a range of music from different time
periods, and would wear garments from different time periods. (We understand that our town's
celebration reaches beyond 1775.)

During the event and at the specified time, each group would perform their musical selection.
We would have them perform the pieces in time order, similar to a musical fife and drum
timeline.

Spectators, both residents and visitors, would be able to hear the change in musical history of the
common person, from the Colonial time through the present, as well as see the change in people's
clothes. We are able to invite musical groups from 1812, 1830's, Civil War, 1890s, Women's
Groups, modern, etc. This would be an educational event for our town, but we also hope to take
advantage of the Adams Art Grant and market to visitors as well.

It is my hope that our event would also draw crowds to Buckman, Hancock-Clarke, and from the
bike path to the businesses. Economically, it would be beneficial to our town.

We are very excited about this event. Please give us feedback. We think that this is a wonderful
opportunity for our residents and visitors to hear the music of the common person and learn
about our history in a visually exciting and unique way.

Thank you so much,
Tanya Morrisett
The William Diamond Jr. Fife and Drum Corps
781-862-1907

1/4/2011
