HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-08-11-BOH.mint' Lexington Board of health Meeting, August 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Town Hall, Room G -15 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA Attendees: Sharon MacKenzie, Chair; Burt Perlmutter; David S. Geller Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director; Ann Belliveau, Health Clerk MacKenzie called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.. The Board reviewed the minutes of July 14, 2010. Perlmutter motioned to accept the minutes as written. Geller seconded. All approved. Environmental Health Report Formosa Taipei — Maureen Lee updated the Board regarding Formosa Taipei. Lee advised the Board that Ching -Chu Lee, who is a partner, will be the primary PIC. Lee will be .working with Ching in a few areas and assess her supervisory effectiveness. Lee also stated that Formosa Taipei requested her to continue with training and will provide additional updates at the September meeting. Septic System Renewal --- 142 Marrett Rd. Cody advised the Board that the Health Dept. received the plans for the septic system renewal at 4 p.m. today and time did not allow review of the entire packet. As a result, the Board wanted to continue the Septic System Renewal request until September. Also, Cody will be sending Moriarty a letter requesting information required by the Health Department as well as the Conservation Dept. Cody informed the Board that Mr. Moriarty is looking to receive a well water permit, animal permit, retail food permit and wholesale MDPH slaughterhouse permit. Cody said one of the major steps is to see how the septic system would tie in to all of the above listed functions such as gallons used per day. Cody also said a public hearing will be required. Jackson's Kitchen, New Establishment ---- Cody introduced Ronny Sarker to the Board of Health who had completed the plan review process for the Jackson's Kitchen located at Massachusetts Avenue. All necessary equipment has been installed according to code. After a discussion, Perlmutter motioned that the Lexington Board of health grants an annual permit to operate a food establishment to Jackson's Kitchen at 50 Massachusetts Avenue. Geller seconded: All approved. Food Establishment Contingency Plan — The Board was presented a draft of Food Establishment Contingency Plan prepared by Alison Irajewski. A further review of the plan will take place in October. Community Health U dateslRe arts Cody informed the Board of a Mini- Health Fair at the Farmer's Market. Information will be distributed concerning Mosquitoes, the Flu, the MRC, and a Blood Pressure Clinic will be held. Participants will receive a free tote bag. Housing Updates 81 westview ----- Cody advised the Board that neighbors from 87 westview met with Cody because they have lived there for 7 years and they were wondering what is happening with the - property. Cody mentioned that in order to participate in the Attorney's General Abandoned Properties Program, a title search will be required. Pool Variance ReA.uests —Cody advised the Board that the following pools has requested relief in the form of a variance from 105 CMR 435.23 (1) Lifeguards: Starwoods — Aloft & Element Pool Permits Geller motioned that the Lexington board of Health grants the variance request from the requirement of lifeguards for the safe operation of pools as listed under 105 CMR 435.23 (1). In addition, all the requirements of 105 CMR 435.23 (2) shall be met including all signage which includes: "warning No Lifeguard on Duty" in easy to read, legible letters which are at least four inches high "Children under age of 16 should not use swimming pool without an adult in attendance" and another sign that states, "Adults should not swim alone ". This variance only applies only to the Starwood Hotels, Aloft and Element Seasonal Pool facilities which have made the request in writing. This variance will expire at the end of the seasonal pool season or upon notification of an unsafe operating condition at a specific facility. Perlmutter seconded. All approved. Caulk Testing �U;pdate. ---- Cody advised the Board that the results of the July 16 testing done at the Town Administration Bldg., Clark Middle School and Estabrook have been received and the Town Administration Bldg. and Clark are fine. Estabrook School will require additional testing. Cody, Goddard and about 6 consultants from Environmental Health and Engineering m.et at the school and it was discovered that the ventilation system was not up and running at the time of the test. Retesting will take place at Estabrook with all the ventilation working. Mosquito Control Update — David Henley of the Eastern Middlesex Mosquito Control Program advised Cody that they are testing some mosquitos in Lexington. They have already testing positive in Waltham and Arlington. Cody has the Mosquito information brochure ready, the catch basins have been treated and an educational session was held at the library. Emer Preparedness Update — Cody mentioned that because the world Health Organization does not consider it a pandemic any longer funds some of the anticipated funding will not be as great. Cody spoke with representatives from Sanofi who supply the State with flu vaccine and they will sell it to us at the State price of $9.97/dose. Perlmutter motioned to adj ourn. Geller seconded. All approved.
