<br />Lexington Board of Health April 8, 2004 Meeting Minutes <br />Police Guard Room, 1575 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, Massachusetts <br /> <br />Attendees: <br /> <br />Board of Health: James Fearnside; Wendy Heiger-Bernays; Jean Kelley; <br />Sharon MacKenzie, Burt Perlmutter <br /> <br />Health Department: Derek Fullerton <br /> <br />Public: Ingrid Klimoff, Jim Sheehy, Rachael Berkowitz, Luann Ferry-Smith <br /> <br />The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />Ingrid Klimoff requested permission from the Chair to distribute to the Board information <br />sheets and a draft article for the Lexington Minuteman concerning local enforcement of <br />the Massachusetts Anti-Idling Law. <br /> <br />Luann Ferry-Smith and Rachael Berkowitz of Ferry Electrologists began an informal <br />discussion concerning the current Body Art Regulations. Berkowitz asked the Board that <br />if she took the required educational courses as specified in the regulation, would she be <br />able to receive the permit for body art (permanent cosmetics). Fearnside informed <br />Berkowitz that if she met all the requirements specified in the regulation, she would be <br />granted the permit. <br /> <br />Fullerton presented the proposed grease trap regulation explaining various criteria to <br />determine if a facility requires a grease trap. A discussion followed. Fearnside suggested <br />that Fullerton reviews the Lafayette, VA grease trap regulations and prepare another draft <br />for review. <br /> <br />Fearnside began a discussion concerning inspections. He feels there will be a crisis <br />situation for pool and camp inspections. Fullerton assured Fearnside the camps and pools <br />would be properly inspected. Fullerton also informed the Board that Kathy Fox is up-to- <br />date on all inspections beginning with January 2004. <br /> <br />According to Fearnside, Martha Wood will start dumpster inspections the end of April. <br /> <br />Fearnside expressed his concern regarding follow-up on reported communicable diseases. <br />Fullerton informed the Board of MacKenzie’s selection of All Care VNA to do the <br />communicable disease follow-up. <br /> <br />Fearnside began a discussion on emergency planning. Fullerton briefed the Board about <br />the latest Region 4a meeting and the funds being made to the Town of Lexington. <br />Lexington will be receiving $7,400.00 for year one which ends 6/1/04 and the money <br />must be spent by 6/30/04 or the money goes back to CDC. On July 1, 2004, Lexington <br />will receive another $7,400. Fearnside suggested Fullerton take a course in <br />epidemiology. Fearnside also suggested to Fullerton that he speak with Johnathan <br />Bersten to see if there are any courses for emergency planning. Fearnside recommended <br />inviting the Fire and Police Chiefs to an upcoming meeting. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
