Approvals: None Presentations/Review: Tourism Committee, bicycle signs for Lexington center The DAC reviewed the proposed bicycle signs to direct riders to walk their bikes on the sidewalks in Lexington center. The signs have already been approved by the Historic District Commission (HDC). The signs will be mounted on a specified number of trash cans in the center. The white background with maroon letters was selected for visibility and compatibility with the existing tourism signs in the center. The code text on the sign must remain per Lexington Police department. Understanding the site conditions and project restrictions the DAC generally approved the proposed sign with the following comments. 1. The DAC suggested adding the word ‘Please’ to the sign. 2. The DAC suggested changing the background color to a gray tone instead of white. 3. The DAC suggested making the signs smaller. 4. The DAC suggested eliminating the ‘dingbat’ detail at each end of the sign. 5. The DAC suggested adding signs at the town bike racks. 6. The DAC asked that the applicant return with revised mock-ups for review(added 11/30/09) 450 Bedford St., Lexington, MA - Sign Application The DAC reviewed the proposed signs and had the following comments. 1. The DAC is concerned that the signs are too big for the proposed location and should be scaled down and would like the sign not to exceed 5’-0” in height and be no longer then the existing signs in length. 2. The DAC wanted the sign of the lettering to be reduce in proportion with the sign 3. The DAC commented that typically internally lit signs are not acceptable and that the applicant should pursue lighting the signs externally. 4. The DAC asked if the applicant could try and limit the number of signs to one. 5. The DAC reminded the applicant to maintain safe visibility. The DAC recommended that the applicant return for further review once the sign has been redesigned. 240 Bedford St., Lexington, MA – Sign Application Understanding the site conditions and project restrictions the DAC generally approved the proposed sign with the following comments. 1. The DAC suggested adding additional text to direct traffic and reduce the size of the arrow. 2. The DAC reminded the applicant to maintain safe visibility. Lexington Technology Park – Request for Amendment to PSDUP The DAC reviewed the proposed site plan changes. The plan defined the division of building envelops, possible building footprints and associated parking. The DAC had the following comments. 1. Generally the DAC felt strongly that the proposed zoning amendment change allowing taller buildings on this property was not appropriate for this location and would have significant impact on the neighborhood and the Route 2 corridor. 2. The building parcels within the site seem too arbitrary and open to change in the future. 3. The DAC felt that the open space/ green space felt leftover and not a planned element of the design. The site seems packed in and maxed out with buildings and parking. 4. The DAC suggested trying to reduce surface parking and increase garage parking to allow more open space to create a campus feel.
