Tomnlotlwtatth .of luasgac usttts* <br /> In the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-Three. <br /> AN ACT CONCERNING THE MANNER OF VOTING AT CERTAIN ELECTIONS. <br /> Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the <br /> authority of the same, as follows: <br /> SECT. 1. All votes and ballots for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Senators and Representatives of <br /> t.he Commonwealth, Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States, and Representatives <br /> in Congress,and all votes and ballots to be given at the meetings to be held on the first Monday of March <br /> of the present year,for the election of delegates to be chosen under the provisions of an act relating to the <br /> calling of a convention of delegates of the people for the purpose of revising the Constitution of the Com- <br /> monwealth, may be deposited in the ballot box in a sealed envelope, or without any envelope, at the option <br /> of each voter; and if in any case more than one vote or ballot is found in any one envelope, bearing the <br /> name of the same person for the same office, all but one vote or ballot shall be thrown out; and if two or <br /> more votes or ballots be found in one envelope bearing the names of different persons for the same office, <br /> all such votes and ballots shall be rejected ; and any envelope found to contain only a blank shall not be <br /> counted as a vote or ballot. <br /> .SECT. 2. Self-sealing envelopes of uniform size and color bearing the emblematic Seal of the Com- <br /> monwealth shall be furnished at the expense of the State, (as heretofore in accordance with the provi- <br /> sions of a law passed in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-one) to all persons who may desire, at any <br /> election hereinbefore specified, to deposit their ballots therein, and no other envelopes shall be used at <br /> the polls. <br /> SECT. 3. The act entitled "An Act for the better security of the ballot," passed on the twenty- <br /> second day of May, in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-One : and the Act entitled <br /> "An Act in addition to an Act for the better security of the ballot," passed on the twentieth day of <br /> May, in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-Two, and all other acts and parts of acts <br /> inconsistent with the provisions of this act are hereby repealed. <br /> SECT. 4.
