It ' has made no ' provi - <br /> Sion, however, fo.r an additional ' tank , and. we reiterate, therefore, <br /> our re.commend�ation of last year " that the town insist that the <br /> I later Company erect an additional tank or stand pipe on a suf- <br /> ficiently high elevation, ,.4hich it shall keep filled at' all times <br /> with water, and to be used only in case of fir-e'' and "that no <br /> further contract should be made with the later Company which <br /> does not provide. for such additional tank or for-better pro- <br /> tect ion in some other reasonable method." <br /> `;'e call at tent ion, furthermore; to the unusual number of . <br /> f ires,many of then at a di stance from the centre, that have <br /> occur„red in thetown since: our la,'st report , and to the drisad- <br /> v,�.ntq.ge under which the Fire Department hat: labored in not being <br /> able to loc7te ' these fires promptly and 'to bring the chemical <br /> engines, -which are of use only in the early stages of a fire, - <br /> into service quickly. <br /> In view of these facts, we endor7e Articles 23 and 27 of the <br /> I arrant for the present Town Meeting relating, respectively, <br /> a fire Alarm System ;and 'to additional a-opropriation" for <br /> the Fire. Department . We are convinced that the present <br /> method of notifying the D partmnnt of the existence and locatlo <br />
