NORTH BROOKFIRLD, MASS, July 3, 18go.
DF,AR SIR :
After having been upwards of ten years at work on it,
the town of North Brookfield, Massachusetts, has published
a History of the Town, that is said to be as fine a piece of
work, of its class, as has ever been published in this State or
this country. The testimonials in relation to its general
excellence that have been received from prominent gentlemen
in this and many other States, and also from England, who
are competent to most intelligently judge of its merits, place
it in the very front rank of historical works of this kind.
The early Indian history is especially interesting, and was
very carefully compiled, requiring many years of faithful
labor and research.
A very large edition was printed, and as quite a number
are still owned by the town, at the last annual town meeting
authority was granted to the Board of Trustees of the North
Brookfield Free Public Library and Reading Room to ex-
change copies of the History of the Town for histories of
other towns, and for biographical works.
Will you please inform me if there has ever been pub-
lished a history of your town? If there has been, please
give me the full address of the party with whom we can cor-
respond, with a view to an exchange of a copy of the History
