RULES AND REGULATIONS <br /> OF THE <br /> CARY LIBRARY, LLXINGTON. <br /> ARTICLE I. The room shall be open from one o'clock to <br /> five, P. M., every Wednesday, and from one o'clock to eight, <br /> P_ M., every Saturday, excepting on legal holidays, and such <br /> days as the Trustees may designate for the annual examina- <br /> tion of the Library. <br /> ARTICLE II. Any inhabitant'of the town of Lexington, <br /> over fourteen years of age, shall be entitled to the use of the <br /> Library. <br /> ARTICLE III. One book may be taken at a time, and may <br /> be retained two weeks-; unless the time be limited, and so <br /> marked on the cover. Books may be renewed unless marked <br /> otherwise on the cover. : The fine for the retention of any <br /> volume over the time -*ecified shall be five cents for every <br /> day it is so retained. - <br /> ARTICLE IV. No,person except the Librarian shall be <br /> allowed to take books-from the cases. <br /> ARTICLE V. All books are required to be returned to the <br /> Library on or before the last day of July, under penalty of% <br /> fine of twenty-five cents. <br /> ARTICLE VI. All injuries to books, beyond a reasonable <br /> wear, and all losses shall be made good to the satisfaction of <br /> the Trustees of`the Library, by the person liable. <br /> ARTICLE VII. No person owing a fine shall receive books <br /> from the Library until the same is paid. <br /> ARTICLE VIII. Sojourners in the town may have the <br /> same privilege of using the Library' s inhabitants, by first <br /> signing an agreement to abide by the regulations, and to be <br /> subject to their fines and other penalties. <br /> [Extract from the Laws, Chap. 69, Acts of 1867.] <br /> Whoever wilfully and maliciously writes upgn, injures, defaces, <br /> tears or destroys any book, plate, picture, en raving, or statue, <br /> belonging to any law, town, city, or other pudic library, shall <br /> be punished by a fine of not less than five dollars. nor more than <br /> one thousand dollars for every such offence. <br />
