31 <br /> Aril 29 1896 . <br /> p s <br /> Mr . George E. Muzzey , <br /> Chairman Board of Selectmen, <br /> Lexington, Mass . <br /> Dear Sir. - <br /> I sent Mr . Lodge my check for $50 , thinking, with you, <br /> that we could hardly make the amount any less , as his expenses <br /> must„ aggregate in the neighborhood of tha':, sum. He very kind- <br /> ly returns the check to me , saying that as his expenses were <br /> paid by the State , he will make no charge against Lexington . <br /> I have written him a letter , expressing our appreciation of his <br /> kindness in this matter . <br /> In his letter to me he says , " I should be glad , if it were <br /> possible , to have the address printed in pamphlet form, for I <br /> have had. .a good many calls for it , and I think there are a good <br /> many people in the State who would like to have it . " I have <br /> said to him that you will have the proceedings printed . Pos- <br /> sibly I have taken too much liberty in giving this- assurance , <br /> but I hardly think so , for it seems to .me that through Mr . <br /> Lodge' s kindness in remitting; the check, you can hardly do lass <br /> than comply with his request . Moreover , you previously ex.- <br /> pressed yourself as in favor of printing. <br /> It seems to me that the Board of Selectmen may well. assume <br />
