Members present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Ruth G. Seven, George R. Graves paw! Wax R. Straw and Aesesiate Commissioner Carl E. 'Bryant. In the absence of S•oretarf Philip S. Parsons, upon motion duly wade and seconded, it was unanimously VC')TFD that Coraeission.r George F. Graves serve as Secretary Pro Tempore. Fearing was held at 7130 P.N. on the application of Ye Olde Bargain Barn, Inc. for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the emo- tion and display of a sign for the store at 1704 Waseashnsetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Nr. Rick Frawley represented the applicant. One soels drawing of the sign was presented. Two more to complete the set will be *squired and photographs showing the proposed location of the sign will be forwarded to the Commission. Application for a second sign will be made ata later date. Upon motion duly made and aseanded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the ap- plicant. No other persons having appeared, the bearing was closed at 115 P.W. Adjourned hearing was held at 8130 P.N. an the application of Rowe Chevrolet, Ina, with resp.et to the erection and display of a free stan- ding sign for the building at 33 Medford street, which is within the Battle Green District. Sr. George t. Ross, Sr. and Nr. George B. Row, Jr. were present. Scale drawings of the sign were considered by the Cowm,is- sion. CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 1 This Certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to Rowe Chevrolets Inc . withrespectto the erection and display of a free standing sign as set forth below for the building at 33 Bedford Street, which is within the Battle Green District. i The sign is to be suspended by brackets on the westerly side of the existing 6" dia. steel post located adjacent to the sidewalk on the easterly side of Bedford Street as shown on Plan entitled "Existing Sign Post & Sign Panel With New Lettering for Rowe Chevrolet, Inc ., Bedford St., Lexington, Massachusetts" , dated June 21, 1968, by C. Harry Erickson, Architect submitted to the Commission. The design, layout, size and style of the sign and lettering appear on or may be scaled from said drawing. The sign is to be constructed - of wood, painted white and 4'astened to the steel post by metal brac- kets and the post is to be painted white. The following legend is to appear on both faces of the sign: "Rowe Chevrolet" and the word "Rowe" is to consist of raised black plastic letters fastened flush to the sign. The word "Chevrolet" shall consist of gold leaf lettering out- lined with a thin black line on a white Chevrolet symbol outlined in black, said outline not to exceed 1/2" in width. There is to be a guard rail fence separating the building and facilities from the ad- joining property on the southerly side and a screening fence at the rear of the premises, the location of said fences to be as shown on ' said drawing No. ER-B-603. The general style, layout and details of the design, and the dimen- sions of the service station building appear on or may be scaled from the aforesaid drawing No: ER-B-603 and scale drawings No. ER-430 and No. ER-431 entitled "Gulf Oil Corporation", "Brick Colonial Building" and respectively "Plans - Elevations & Sections" and "Foundation - Roof Framing & Details", dated respectively March 24, 1964 and finally revised 7/31/67 and March 26, 1964 and finally revised 8/1/67, sub- witted to the Commission at said hearing. All face brick including the chimney and chimney cap are to match as nearly as possible in color and texture the red brick of the building on the adjoining pre- mises on the south side at Bedford Street . The shingles may be of a type matching the white asphalt shingle submitted to the Commission S at said hearing or a gray or black color. The windows and door of the sales office at the northwest corner of the building are to be of wood and are to have permanent wood muntins.. All exterior woodwork of the building, the steel security window ' frames on the south elevation and all doors other than the service door on the southerly elevation are to be finished white. The other building materials are to be as noted onwthe aforesaid drawings . The pump island is to have three sets of two pumps each, an oil cabinet and. three light fixtures . The general style, layout and details of the design of the pumps and cabinet appear on a pi=int oi the pump island submitted to the Commission at the hearing and the dimensions of the pumps and cabinet appear on or may be scaled froa the aforesaid drawing No. ER-B-603 . The screening fence at the rear of the premises is to be of cedar and not more than 61 high and may be stained a brown color. i w A There are to be four single lantern type light fixtures for the dr vo I. ways and paved area and three lantern type light fixtures for 'the pump island. All light fixtures are to be of the Colonial American style design and dimensions described in a brochure submitted to the fi Commission at the hearing. The vertical distance between the bottom V of the light fixtures and the ground is to be not more than lit' for ft the driveway and paved area lights and 10' for the two outside pump Island lights and 81 for the center inside pump island lights. The I' fixtures for the four driveway and paved area lights are to be amounted on brackets, having scrolls at bottom, attached to square tapered poles . not more than 161 in height with the brackets extending outward 721" t' ;, from the poles to the center of the light fixtures. The outside fix.- o tures for the pump island lights are to be mounted on 36" brackets, having scrolls at bottom, attached to supporting poles not more than 144 in height. The center fixture for the pump island light is to to ` Mounted or a supporting bar extending between the two light poles as shown on said print of the pump island. The style, design and dimen- sions of the brackets and poles are to be as shown in the afore- mentioned brochure and pump island print, except that there are to be no ornamental scrolls attached to the poles above the light fixture brackets.
