1 <br />409 <br />3oard of Health Meeting <br />February 13, 1984 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Health was held Monday, February 13, 1984 <br />at 7:15 p.m. in Room G-1 (Recreation Office) of the Town Office Building. <br />Members present were: Mr. Ja,es W.Lambie, Chairman; Michael S. Erdos,M.D., <br />Linda Roemer, Ph.D. and George A. Smith, Jr., R.S., Director of Public Health. <br />Minutes of the January 11, 1984 meeting were accepted as read. <br />RIDGE Mr. Smith told the Board that over in the Ridge Estates area someone had RIDGE • <br />ESTATES boticed and brought to his attention a discharge and odor in the brook that looks ESTATES <br />like sewage. <br />1 <br />1 <br />Mr. Smith said last week he had a machine dig and he found a pipe inground <br />around 18 feet long. He doesn't really know what it is because there is no cess- <br />pool or septic system in that area - pipe doen not Lead into the brook. <br />Mr. Smith said D.E.O.E. would not do water samples for him. <br />Dr. Roemer said perhaps it should be tested. Mr. Smith said he thaught he would <br />do that. <br />Mr. Smith told Mr. Lambie he would like him to go over there with him and take <br />a look at it. <br />This lot has been sold and someone will be building on it. Everything• 152 Old <br />will stay the same. They will collapse the old system and build a new septic Spring, <br />system. Lot 16st <br />Map 18 <br />There has been a recall on many items that has EDB (Ethylene Dibromide) <br />in them. EDB RECALI <br />The state proceeded with the recall of these items and Mr,.Smith and Mrs. <br />Iialko, Sanitarian, checked out the markets and convenience stores. There were <br />no items on the shelves with those particular codes. Most items had been removed. <br />Mr. Smith had received a call from the State on Friday, February 10th saying <br />"to hold" on banning of the products. It was going to court and a decision should <br />be made on Tuesday, February 14th. <br />The Board of Appeals has turned down the owner of the lot on Piper Road to <br />build a four bedroom house. <br />The owner, Mr. Erickson, is trying to buy some land there from the State. PIPER <br />Mr. Smith said he doesn't know why Mr. Erickson wants to build there -he owns two ROAD <br />or three lots across the street he could build on. <br />Raytheon has not set aside a section for non-smokers and seem to be aspirated <br />with the whole idea. They had their Cooporate attorneys looking at the whole RAYTHEON <br />situation. NO SMOKING <br />AREAS <br />Mr. Smith said they claim smoking is down and that they have taken out three <br />or four of their cigarette machines. <br />They have never conducted a survey to see how many employees could use a non- <br />smoking area. <br />
