1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />JULY 13, 1983 <br />After the public hearing on July 13, 1983, the Board of Health held a short <br />meeting. <br />383 <br />Deborah Motyka, Health Sanitarian/Intern gave a report to the Board of what SANITARIAN'S <br />inspections she had made. She has been concentrating on checking out the semi- REPORT <br />public swimming pools and the Town pool and Res. The Res is in good shape this <br />year. Mr. Smith had the Recreation Department remove weeds last year. <br />Debbie has also been inspecting some restaurants and cafeterias. <br />Mr. Smith reported the Green and White property, between Maple and Woburn Streets, MOSQUITO <br />has a tremendous amount of mosquitoes. They have been in there spraying but they CONTROL <br />think they missed some damp areas because there still is an abundance of mosquitoes. <br />Mr. Smith said the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project has isolated the <br />"Highland J" virus on the South Shore. <br />Dr. Grady of the Jamaica Plain Labs believes that Highland J is an indicator <br />that EEE could be on the way. <br />The Board agreed that the time is coming that they must make a decision on spray- <br />ing. <br />The Board had drafted a letter to the Planning Board, Board of Selectmen and the <br />Board of Appeals in regard to the possibility of Collaborative Research applying <br />for a license to do RDNA in the Town of Lexington at Ledgemont Research Center. RDNA <br />The letter was signed by each member - to be sent to the specific Departments. <br />Mr. Smith told the Board that conditions at Carroll's animal barn are deblorable. CARROLL'S <br />He plans to write a letter in this regard to the Carrolls. ANIMAL <br />PERMIT <br />Two years ago the state allowed towns to raise some fees, Mr. Smith told the Board, <br />namely - in the Health area: milk, alcohol and pasterization. This must go before INCREASE <br />Town Meeting to take affect. OF FEES <br />Our milk licenses at this time are only $2.00 and the methyl alcohol is only $1.00. <br />The Board agreed the milk license could go up to $10.00 and the methyl alcohol could <br />be set at five dollars. <br />The Board said they should send those fees up to the Board of Selectmen to put on <br />the warrant for the next session of Town Meeting. <br />The Board passed the appointments of Melvin Tappen, Facility Director, and Stephen SPECIAL <br />Wright, Steward, as special agents to issue burial permits, sign the death certifi- APPTS. <br />cates at Metropolitan State Hospital. <br />Next regular meeting will be held September 12, 1983. <br />
