1 1 1 BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING JULY 13, 1983 After the public hearing on July 13, 1983, the Board of Health held a short meeting. 383 Deborah Motyka, Health Sanitarian/Intern gave a report to the Board of what SANITARIAN'S inspections she had made. She has been concentrating on checking out the semi- REPORT public swimming pools and the Town pool and Res. The Res is in good shape this year. Mr. Smith had the Recreation Department remove weeds last year. Debbie has also been inspecting some restaurants and cafeterias. Mr. Smith reported the Green and White property, between Maple and Woburn Streets, MOSQUITO has a tremendous amount of mosquitoes. They have been in there spraying but they CONTROL think they missed some damp areas because there still is an abundance of mosquitoes. Mr. Smith said the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project has isolated the "Highland J" virus on the South Shore. Dr. Grady of the Jamaica Plain Labs believes that Highland J is an indicator that EEE could be on the way. The Board agreed that the time is coming that they must make a decision on spray- ing. The Board had drafted a letter to the Planning Board, Board of Selectmen and the Board of Appeals in regard to the possibility of Collaborative Research applying for a license to do RDNA in the Town of Lexington at Ledgemont Research Center. RDNA The letter was signed by each member - to be sent to the specific Departments. Mr. Smith told the Board that conditions at Carroll's animal barn are deblorable. CARROLL'S He plans to write a letter in this regard to the Carrolls. ANIMAL PERMIT Two years ago the state allowed towns to raise some fees, Mr. Smith told the Board, namely - in the Health area: milk, alcohol and pasterization. This must go before INCREASE Town Meeting to take affect. OF FEES Our milk licenses at this time are only $2.00 and the methyl alcohol is only $1.00. The Board agreed the milk license could go up to $10.00 and the methyl alcohol could be set at five dollars. The Board said they should send those fees up to the Board of Selectmen to put on the warrant for the next session of Town Meeting. The Board passed the appointments of Melvin Tappen, Facility Director, and Stephen SPECIAL Wright, Steward, as special agents to issue burial permits, sign the death certifi- APPTS. cates at Metropolitan State Hospital. Next regular meeting will be held September 12, 1983.
