432 Child Care Center, 14 Holland St APPROVAL MINUTES 27 HILL ST. The evening, Office. Cole and BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING July 28, 1960 regular meeting of the Board of health was held Thursday July 28, 1960 at 7:30 P.M. in the Health Department Members present were Dr. William Cosgrove, Mr. Charles Health Officer, Mark D. Lurvey. Mr. & Mrs. Carl Burri, 14 Holland Street came before the Board to discuss the Health Department regulations for cone .ducting a Child Care C"nter at 14 Holland Street, Lexington. Mr. Lurvey reported he had inspected the premises of Mr. & Mrs. Burrits and he has asked that the following things be done before a Child Care Center can be conducted there: Better lighting Better heating New Floor Covering Rooms must be finished Outside Play Area made safe. Mr. Burri assured the Board all these things would be taken care of. The main problem being that Mrs. Burri, who will con- duct the Child Care Center has had no formal training in teaching pre-school children. Mr. Burri, who is a teacher in the Lexington Public Schools, plans to set up the program for the Child Care Center. Our Health Department Regulations state that the person in charge of a Child Care Center shall have had training or experience in the care and education of children of pre-school age. Mr. Lurvey suggested Mrs. Burri might take a course in pre-school education or an assistant might be hired who would have this training. Dr. Cosgrove suggested that Mr. & Mrs. Burri work in close contact with Mr. Lurvey. The Board assured Mr. & Mrs. Burri that the Health Department would cooperate in any way they could but that until the specified requirements are met we can not issue a license to conduct a Child 4are Cen- ter at 14 Holland Street. Minutes of the June 17, 1960 meeting were approved as read and also the minutes of the Special Meeting held June 29, 1960 were approved as read. Mr. Lurvey reported that on June 1, 1960 a letter was sent to Mr. Thomas A. Bartley calling to his attention that the sewage disposal system at 27 Hill Street was creating obnoxious odors and requesting that Mr. Bartley contact the Public Works Depart- ment regarding connecting this dwelling to Public Sewer. The Public Works Department sent an estimate to Mr. Bartley, to connect this dwelling to the Public Sewer on June 9, 1960. This estimate was for $150.00 On July 26, 1960 this nuisance of over -flowing sewage had not been corrected and the Board voted to send an order to Mr. Thomas A. Bartley, 27 Hill Street stating that this nuisance must be corrected within two weeks. The Board also gave Mr. Lurvey permission to take further action if this order is not complied with. 1 1 1
