336 <br />BOARD OF HEALTH SPECIAL MEETING <br />June 24, 1958 <br />A special meeting was called by Mr. Lurvey, the Health Officer, <br />on Tuesday, June 24, 1958, at 5 P.M. in the Health Office. Present <br />Potter's were Mr. William Potter, Mr. Richard Woodies, and Mr. Herterick. It <br />Piggery had been agreed to hold this meeting at the special meeting on May 1 <br />before the 1958 renewal of the license to keep swine at Potters was <br />issued. <br />Mr. Potter reported that arrangements are now completed for the <br />hauling out of manure on a regular schedule, two or three times a <br />week, whenever a truckload is ready. It will be taken to Burlington. <br />There will be no more manure piles. What is left now will be taken <br />away:;'.Tha truck will start hauling as soon as the proper covering <br />is installed, probably the first of next week. <br />Mr. Lurvey said he would now recommend to the Board of Health <br />that the license to keep swine be issued to the Potters. <br />Mr. Herterick made the statement that he is perfectly satisfied <br />with the cooperation of Mr. Potter and the Board of Health, and that <br />everything is being done that can be done. <br />Mr. Herterick spoke of seeing rats again. Mr. Potter said he <br />is not sure they are coming from the piggery or the 1775 house res- <br />taurant. Could be they are young muskrats which look very similar <br />to rats, and would be from the brook near Route 2. With the baiting <br />being done regularly at the piggery Mr. Potter said he rarely sees <br />any rats at the farm. <br />Mr. Herterick asked what kind of fencing is on the northeast <br />side of the property. He has had complaints that children are still <br />getting into the farm and are bringing home stale food, etc. <br />Mr. Potter explained there is a stone wall on the north side, and <br />it is mostly open on the Walnut Street side because of the trucks <br />coming and going. Children probably get in thru the woods. <br />Mr. Herterick suggested maybe the whole farm should be fenced in, <br />chain link fence or something similar. Mr. Potter said that it <br />would be impossible, and the children could still climb in. <br />Mr. Lurvey said fencing would not come under the Health Department. <br />Mr. Woodies remarked that this arrangement to haul out the manure <br />on a regular schedule seems like a step in the right direction. <br />Mr. Woodis and Mr. Herterick would still like to have an informal <br />meeting, perhaps the first week in September, to discuss the situation <br />again after a summer under the new arrangement. <br />1 <br />1 <br />The meeting adjourned at 5.25 P.M. <br />))) �G <br />Clerk <br />
