803 <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />September 20, 1957 <br />A monthly meeting of the Board of Health was held on Friday, <br />September 20, 1957, at 3 P.M. in the Selectmen's Room, Town Offices. <br />Chairman McQuillan, Dr. Cosgrove, and Mr. Lurvey were present. <br />The Middlesex Health Association is conducting x-rays for all -Rays <br />food handlers during the week of October 14. They consider this 'p\pa'. <br />one of the best ways of finding unknown cases of tuberculosis. Handle: <br />The Board approved of this program, and agreed to help the Associ- <br />ation by paying 70¢ per person for the examinations. Mr. Lurvey <br />estimated of approximately 200 food handlers about 100 would be <br />done. <br />Mr. Lurvey has asked for and received approval of an Asian <br />Flu inoculation program for all town and school personnel from Asian <br />the Board of Selectmen. The vaccine has been ordered. Flu <br />The Planning Board has been notified of the Board of Health's <br />approval of a new motel to be built on Marrett Road near Route Motel' <br />128 which is to be connected to the town sewer. <br />Two subdivisions have been approved by the Board - Longfellow 'Sub - <br />Estates, and William F. Fitzgerald subdivision. div- <br />ision3' <br />Cambridge Health Department has notified us that the Harou- <br />tunian premature baby case is Cambridge settled. <br />A letter was received from Mr. Scott, owner of the Central <br />Block, stating that the plumbing work is to be taken care of as <br />ordered by Mr. Lurvey. <br />An order was sent by constable by Mr. Lurvey to Mr. Gerard 3 <br />Friel, 3 Paul Revere Road, for connection to the tcwn sewer. Paul <br />Mr. Friel had occupied the house without any sewage disposal approval. <br />This connection has been made. Revell <br />Road <br />Dr. Cosgrove is to be the representative of the Board of Health <br />on the Hospital Committee in place of Mr. Cole. The Board feels <br />the Committee should study the need for a hospital in Lexington, Hosier` <br />and that the question of financing should be another issue. tal <br />Com. <br />Mr. Lurvey's report on milk samples taken during this period <br />was discussed. A letter is to be written to the Blue Ribbon Dairy <br />bringing to their attention the high counts on their milk. <br />The Board reviewed the case of two lots on Harbell Street prior <br />to a hearing at 3.30 P.M. with Mr. Harvey, Mr. Lichterman and Mrs. <br />Coveney, residents of the area. After much discussion it was agreed <br />to check with the Engineering Department as to whether these lots can <br />be sewered or not, as we have had conflicting reports. The neighbors <br />are concerned with the sewage which might come from any new cesspools <br />or septic tanks to mix with the present surface water they get on <br />their lots. Mr. Kraynick, the Whitman & Howard engineer, said the <br />lots could have cesspool or septic tanks without endangering the <br />surrounding lots. He stated that sewer installation would be very <br />costly to the builder because of the ledge which would involve ex- <br />pensive blasting. The Board requested Mr. Lurvey to have the <br />
