BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />March 20, 1953 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Health was held in <br />the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building,,on Friday, <br />March 20, 1953 at 3:00 P. M. Chairman McQuillan and the <br />Clerk were present. Mr. Russell is still unable to attend <br />the meetings due to illness, and Dr. Cosgrove telephoned <br />that he could not be present. <br />Dr. Carl R. Benton, 3115 Massachusetts Avenue, Lex- <br />ington, met with the Board in re position of Veterinarian <br />in the town. <br />The Chairman explained that when Dr. Blakely was ob- <br />liged to retire, the Board had no alternative but to appoint <br />an individual who did not reside in Lexington as there were <br />no other veterinarians in town and therefore, following an <br />interview with Dr. John J. Murphy of Cambridge, appointed <br />him. <br />He stated that he has read Dr. Benton's application <br />but explained that no action could be taken at present due <br />to the fact that the other two members of the Board would <br />have to be consulted. He told Dr. Benton that he certainly <br />seems to have all the necessary qualifications for the <br />positioh. <br />The Chairman informed Dr. Benton that one of the duties <br />connected with the position is conducting the annual Rabies <br />Clinic as well as examining all dogs that have bitten any- <br />one, checking all farms once a year and submitting a report <br />to the State. <br />Dr. Benton retired at 3:20 P. M. <br />The Following appointments were made., subject to ap— <br />proval by Dr. Cosgrove, and this was obtained by the Health <br />Sanitarian on March 25th. <br />Health Sanitarian <br />Clerk <br />Agent <br />Special Agent <br />Special Agent <br />197 <br />Richard F. Bowdidge t° " n <br />Application for nomination of Inspector of Slaughtering <br />was received from the State Department of Public Health. <br />Mr. Richard F. Jackson was nominated subject to the ap- <br />proval by Dr. Cosgrove which was obtained on March 24th. <br />Letter was received from the Lexington Visiting Nurse <br />Association requesting appointment of a member to serve on <br />the Association's Board of Directors. The Chairman agreed <br />to represent the Board for the time being with possibility <br />of a change, depending upon appointment of new member to re - <br />Rep. to <br />VNA <br />
