149 <br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />April 28, 1952 <br />A meeting of the Board of Health was held in Mr. <br />Jackson's Office on Monday evening, April 28, 1952 at <br />8:00 P.M. Chairman Cosgrove and Mr. McQuillan were <br />present. Mr. Jackson, Health Sanitarian, was also pre- <br />sent and kept a record of the meeting. <br />Mr. Small, attorney for the Pleasant Associates' <br />development off Lowell Street, met with the Board to dis- <br />cuss his problem of Board of Health approval of sewage Pleasant <br />disposal in the area. The Department of Public Health Associates <br />has made an examination of the land, but its report has Development <br />been delayed. Mr. Small Was advised to contact Mr. <br />Stevens, Town Counsel, about the situation and then Mr. <br />Stevens would advise the Board of Health. <br />Messrs. Adams and Stevens, owners of Scribner's <br />Market, met with the Board for approval of temporary <br />use of Cataldo's wash house on Bow Street while damages <br />to their storecausedby fire are repaired. <br />The Board of Health approved and instructed Mr. <br />Jackson to inspect the temporary establishment. <br />Petition was received, signed by five residents <br />of Valleyfield Street, stating that "there is an ever <br />present accumulation of water due to improper drainage <br />on all properties on Valleyfield Street." <br />Mr. Wyman and Mr. Gelzinis met with the Board at <br />8:30 P.M. to discuss the subject. <br />Mr. Gelzinis stated that the culverts are over- <br />flowing and the street is practically impassable. <br />Mr. Wyman stated that septic tanks in the area are <br />overflowing and his is a completely gone. He said that <br />the ditches are filling up with vegetation and one por- <br />tion of the ditch is two or three feet higher than the <br />rest and it acts as a dam. Mr. Mabeth, 507 Waltham <br />Street, will not give Mr. Burns, Supt. of Public Works, <br />permission to dig any deeper, but if the digging could <br />be done, it would help to alleviate the situation. <br />Mr. Gelzinis claimed that the drainage from Wood- <br />haven runs into this area and there is no proper means <br />for disposing of it. <br />Mr. McQuillan said that the Board of Health will <br />determine that the situation is a health menace. <br />The Chairman said that Mr. Burns will be contacted <br />for advice and immediate action. <br />Complaint re <br />Drainage <br />Valleyfield St <br />
