BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
October 19, 1951
Dr, Cosgrove, Mr. McQuillan and Mr. Jackson
present.
Man. Brucchi, 63 Paul Revere Road and'Father
Casey came in to discuss an increase in Mr. Brucchi's
animal permit.

Why should the increase be denied?
As a health measure - the keeping of
animals and issuing of permits was put
in the hands of the Board of Health.
But Martin's Riding School in Medford is
close to homes.
The -Board of Health has'a set of laws
governing our actions. With the community
growing so rapidly,'we must draw the line
on new applications.
I have been told that three acres make a
farm and I now -have approximately two and
one half acres. The ponies are a business
with me. I might have a few for a short
time until they can be sold.' Two ponies
are just for my own children. The barn
will be cleaned daily and the manure
removed often. There is to be all new
fence around the pasture. • The -sheep
will be slaughtered soon and I will
keep- no more.
So far you have defied all the orders -of
the Board of Health.
All 1'wanton my permit is one large
heifer, one small heifer,"eight horses
and seventy-five chickens. I had al-
most fifty guinea hens after the Board
of Health told me to get rid of than.
John is typical of animal lovers, he has
a weakness to take in everything that
does not have a home. As a -horse trader,
he wants to outwit everyone; he loves
animals more than he loves the law.
The Board of Health has been placed in
a spot by the objections.
I bought the house and land as a farm,

Dr. Cosgrove: Permits are based on merit and
the things you have called the
Board are. unspeakable.
Mr. Brucchi: If you grant me this permit there
will be nothing.else there than
what is on the permit.
Mr. McQuillan: Our policy is not to establish a new
farm in a built up area.
Dr. Cosgrove: The map of your property which
you showed us was a subdivision Lot -B
(which you now own) was laid out as
a house lot.

Since I lived there I have had two or
three cows. I will not keep more than
allowed me on my new application.
Until we -hear from Mr. Lynch, Brucchi's
attorney, no decision will be made and
no action taken.
Application of Mrs. White, 26 Downing Road, for Infant
Boarding Home approved.
Arthur Lewis, 16 Middleby Road, filed application for
100 hens. This was cut to 75 hens and approved.
Letter from State Department of Public Health concerning
Sunnyfield. Mr. Jackson.made a terrific mistake on 17 Donald
Street, be more careful in future and get help on marginal
lots.
The Board decided to pay all of Kirkland'.s bill and
write him a letter telling him to pay five dollars a week
as repayment.
Mr. Plank was turned down on premature baby payment because
he has no settlement in Lexington or Massachusetts and because
his salary in no way authorizes us to pay this bill for him.
Twenty-five hens for Tibbets, 56 Reed Street was approved.
