1
BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
October 21, 1949
A regular meeting of the Board of Health was held -
in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office_Building on Friday,
October 21, 1949 at 3:00 P. M. Chairman Cosgrove, Messrs.
Russell, McQuillan and Jackson were present. The Clerk
was also present.
Mr. Jackson submitted his report for -the period
from September 16 to October 20 inclusive, a copy. of
which is on file.
The subject of placarding was discussed. The
Clerk reported that the Visiting Nurse telephoned and
raised the question as to whether or not Mr. Jackson
is qualified to determine if a patient has recovered
before the placard for a contagious disease is re-
moved.
It was the opinion of the Board that the burden
of proof is up to the family doctor with whom Mr.
Jackson should confer before placards are removed.
The Chairman reported that Dr. Drury, of the State
Department of Public Health, conferred with him relative
to the fact that no formal nomination has been made
insofar as the position of Slaughter Inspector is con-
cerned. The State was notified, however, at the time
of Mr. Wiggins' appointment that the Town would have
a full-time Sanitarian as of June 15 at which time Mr.
Wiggins, Services would terminate and the duties of
his office would be taken over by the Sanitarian.
Upon motion made by Mr. McQuillan, seconded by Mr.
Russell, it was voted to nominate Richard F. Jackson
as Slaughter Inspector in the Town of Lexington for
a term expiring March 31, 1950.
The Board discussed the overtime which Mr. Jackson
has been required to put in at the Slaughter House
operated by Mr. Monsignore on Laconia Street. It was
agreed that he should not be required to inspect any
slaughtering after regular working hours and he was
authorized to so advise Mr. Monsignore.
The Board considered the possibility of establishing
a class for the purpose of instructing individuals
operating food establishments in the town. The course
would be conducted by Mr. Jackson and those attending
would be advised that all food establishments are to
be kraded. Mr. Jackson was authorized to make whatever
arrangements he deems advisable and to compose a letter
to be sent out over the Board's signature.
55
Placarding
Slaughter
Inspector
Course for
operators
of food
establish-
ments
