28 <br />Interview <br />for <br />Sanitarian <br />BOARD OF HEALTH PJMEETING <br />November 19, 1948 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Health was <br />held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building <br />on Friday, November 19, 1948 at 3:20 p.m. Chair- <br />man McQuillan, Messrs. Russell and Terhune were <br />present., The Clerk was also present. <br />Mr. William R. Merrill, 47 Florence Avenue, <br />Norwood met with the Board relative to the proposed <br />position of Sanitarian. <br />The Chairman explained that for a number of <br />years the Town has had part-time Health Inspector, <br />Milk Inspector and Slaughter Inspector, but have <br />definitely in mind having a full-time Inspector. <br />Mr. Merrill stated that he is twenty-seven <br />years old and took a course in bacteriology and <br />public health. He explained that bacteriology is <br />laboratory work and public health consists of setting <br />up a Health Board. He stated that several courses <br />taken by him consisted of field trips in which one <br />visits bakeries, markets, dairies, cafeterias, etc. <br />The Chairman inquired as to the length of the <br />course and Mr. Merrill said that the year is divided <br />into two semesters; the course would run from Feb- <br />ruary 1st to June 1$t. <br />The Chairman asked if Mr. Merrill had studied <br />milk inspection and he replied in the affirmative. <br />Mr. Merrill stated that he would require lab- <br />oratory equipment consisting of a refrigerator, autoclave <br />for sterilization, petri dishes, slides, microscope and <br />a bunsen burner. <br />The Chairman asked if Mr. Merrill had any exper- <br />ience relative to slaughter inspection and he replied <br />in the negative. <br />The Chairman asked if Mr. Merrill felt that he <br />would be near enough to his work in the event he were <br />appointed. <br />Mr. Merrill said that if he took a position in <br />Lexington he would like to, if possible, live in <br />Lexington. He said that he thinks one should be as <br />near the community as possible where one works. <br />Mr. Terhune explained that the position, if <br />approved, would not be open until the first of April. <br />The Chairman asked if Mr. Merrill had any idea <br />as to the salary he would be willing to work for and <br />Mr. Merrill asked if there would be a maximum and <br />minimum. <br />1 <br />
