Meeting Minutes —March 1, 2018
Members Present: Victoria Buckley (Chair), Shaun Grady, Julie Miller, Janet Perry,
Francine Stieglitz, Leonard Morse-Fortier, Susan Cusack

Guests: Valerie Overton, Co-Chair of LexPride (Lexington Pride Coalition)
Agenda:
1. Review of minutes of last meeting —the minutes were accepted with two
corrections.
2. Valerie Overton from LexPride talked about issues for individuals in the
LBGTQIA community. She explained that the Q means questioning, that
the I means intersects (those with secondary sex characteristics from birth or
0.5% of the population) and that the A means agender or asexual. We
discussed what issues are common to both the Commission and LexPride,
such as new construction concerns —that bathrooms need to be both all
gender and accessible. We will keep in touch to share issues in the future
where our interests intersect.
3. The Center Streetscape appears to have set up a working group called the
Center Streetscape Sub-Committee. The Commission was not invited to be part of
this. We will try to attend open meetings for this working group as posted. There is
an item on the Town Meeting warrant to move the design phase from 25% to 100%
and the Commission will present at Town Meeting when this article comes up for
discussion.
4. Jim Kelly was not present to provide updates on the Minuteman, Diamond and Clarke
construction projects.
5. Victoria supplied an update on survey concerning disparate suspension rates for
disabled and African-American students. The survey is being coded for computer
application and also translated into Korean and Mandarin.
6. The Commission is trying to resolve issues around taking minutes. Current plan will
be tried out: Shaun will take voice notes on his phone, Sue will take rough minutes on
he laptop and Francine will assist with editing.
7. For new business, Victoria received a copy of a complaint from the
Architectural Access Board concerning a citizen complaint about the lack of
handicapped parking at Busa Wine & Spirits at 55 Bedford Street. The
AAB has set up a fine hearing on March 12.
8. Victoria contacted the Conservation Commission about the cart path in
Willards Woods needing improvements done but there has been no answer.
