HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-06-26BOARD OF APPEALS June 26, 1980 7:30 p.m. The Board of Appeals held a regular meeting in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. Present: Ruth Morey, Chairman Woodruff M. Brodhead Irving H. Mabee Natalie H. Riffin Thomas G. Taylor Public hearings were held on the following petitions. 1837 Massachusetts Avenue, Miriam W. Butts, representing Books on the Green, Inc. and Gallery on the Green, Ltd. - special permit for a projecting sign. 1844 Massachusetts Avenue, Jewel S. Douglass - special permit for a free standing directory sign. 1734 Massachusetts Avenue, Gerald M. Gilbert, Snack -Time - to amend special permit granted 4/15/80, condition #2, so as to allow Sunday hours (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) to operate take out food service business at 1734 Mass. Ave. 2 and 3 Forbes Rd., Honeywell, Inc. - temporary special permit to allow 18 office 'trailers on the property. Decisions filed with the Town Clerk. 1837 Mass. Ave. - unanimously granted. 1-844 Mass. Ave. - unanimously denied (see planning board recommendation to deny). 1734 Mass. Ave. - unanimously granted. 2 & 3 Forbes Rd. - unanimously granted (expires 7/31/81). Eric T. Clarke, Associate Member, replaced Thomas G. Taylor as the Board began its deliberations toward making decisions with respect to the hearings held on June 12, postponed to June 26. (Please see June 12, 1980 minutes.) Eric T. Clarke had net with Achison Callahan of Palmer and Dodge with respect to so-called "small lot problems" and made his report to the Board (written report). Decisions filed with the Town Clerk. 21 Moreland Ave. (appeal) - Board of Appeals unanimously voted to uphold the Building Commissioner (see decision filed with Town Clerk). 21 Moreland Ave. (Variance) - unanimously denied. Board of Appeals meeting June 26, 1980 (continued) -2 258 Marrett Rd. (Variance) - denied unanimously. Other action The Board discussed with the Building Commissioner procedure with respect to the need for variances of dimensional controls. The Board agreed that variances can come to the Board of Appeals without first receiving refusal of a building permit from the Building Department. The Board confirmed the date, July 31, 1980, to receive further information and reopen the hearing with respect to Boston Properties, 424 Bedford Street. Mabee as a member of the Board of Appeals for a five-year term expiring May 31, 1985. The Board also voted to appoint William C. Hays, 39 Locust Avenue, as an Associate Member and to reappoint.Robert M. Gary, Eric Clarke, William J. Scouler, Clarence D. Turner and Robert V.
