HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-07-08BOARD OF APPEALS July 8, 1976 The Board of Appeals held a regular meeting on Thursday, July 8, 1976, begin- ning at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office Building. Present were: Chairman Nickerson, Ruth Morey and Irving H. Mabee, regular members and Associate members: Natalie H. Riffin and Robert Cataldo. Also present were the usual room full of spectators. Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notices having been mailed to the proper persons and notices having been advertised as required by law. Donald W. Thomas - special permit, pursuant to section 30.3, to build an addition to the rear of the existing dwelling at 10 Parker Street. The present house, built around 1900, has a setback of 5 feet rather than the 30 feet required by current zoning. The proposed addition will be a single room to be used as a kitchen and play area. An open deck, extending off this room is also proposed. Lexington Coal & Oil Inc. - permission to keep rental automobiles, trailers and vans on premises for the purpose of leasing. The number of units to be approxi- mately twenty depending upon the demand, some of these to be kept inside the garage at rear of parking lot. The request is in conjunction with our present fuel oil wholesale operation, tanker trailers and school bus operation. Lexington Gardens, Inc. (E.Lee Schneider, President) - special permit, under Sec- tion 25.31 (commercial greenhouses) to erect 5,040 square feet of gabled green- houses to replace 2,600 square feet of growing hotbeds at 93 Hancock Street. ' Greenhouses would be constructed of galvanized steel and covered with polyethylene. Each greenhouse would measure 17'6" by 72' and would be connected to one another forming an area under cover 70' x 72'. From ground level to height of gutter would measure 9', and from gutter to peak of structure would be approximately 4'6" for an overall height of about 1316". Proposed structure is approximately 420' from Hancock Street, in excess of 220' from southern property line, and in excess of 225' from eastern property line. Proposed structure would replace existing hotbeds in this 70' x 72' area. Clifford D. Fleming and Eleanor F. Fleming - permission to vary the zoning bylaw of the Town so as to erect a single family dwelling upon a 10,000 sq. ft. parcel of land comprised of lots 45, 46 and 47, Map 72, Assessor's Map of the Town, having 100 ft, of frontage on Earl Street, an unaccepted way, all as shown on plan sub- mitted with the petition for a hearing. The Board made the following decisions, all in open meeting with spectators. See permits and denials for details. Thomas - granted unanimously. Lexington Coal and Oil - denied (1, Chairman in favor; 1 abstaining, R.Cataldo; 3 opposed: R. Morey, I. Mabee, N. Riffin. Lexington Gardens, Inc. - petition withdrawn by petitioner.
