<br />HumanServicesCommittee <br />May19,2015 <br />Present:CharlotteRodgers,GailFields,BonnieTenPas,BettyBorghesani,GailRogers,PamJoshi,Norm <br />Cohen <br />Absent:LeaElkin,BarbaraChiampa <br />ThemeetingopenedwithasummaryofHSCserviceprovision(CharlotteRodgers).Thecaseload <br />increasedinthespring.Themajorityofthecaseswereresidentswalkinginforfinancialassistancewith <br />recreationactivitiesalongsidefamiliesthathavebeenseenregularly. <br />Updateonthehomelessprogram:theQualityInnmaystopparticipatingduetolowreimbursement <br />(cappedreimbursed$80/night,whichislowerthanmarketrate).Atthistimethesocialworkerhasbeen <br />workingwithonefamilyattheQualityInn.Afamilywhohadbeentherefor3yearsmovedinto <br />congregatehousing.WhiletheŅğƒźƌǤƭlivingconditionsarebetter,onechallengeisthatfamilieshaveto <br />leavehousingonthesamedaytheyreceivethehousingassignmentwhichcanbetoughonĭŷźƌķƩĻƓƭ <br />transitions.Ifkidsareyoungenough,theyareautomaticallyenrolledintheEIprogram,whichcanhelp <br />withtheĭŷźƌķƩĻƓƭtransition. <br />DHCDexpectedchangesinemergencyhousingΑmaymovefromhotelshelteringtocongregatehousing <br />orgrouphousing. <br />HomelessworkinggroupΑchangedthenametoFamiliesExperiencingTransitions. <br />MembersofvariousLexingtonfaithbasedcommunitiesareforminganewprogramcalledͻ\[ĻǣźƓŭƷƚƓ <br />9ğƷƭͼwhichissimilartotheBedfordprogram.Therewasagoodturnoutforthefirstmeeting.RepJay <br />Kaufmanalsoattended.Lexingtonprogramiscoordinatingwithothercommunitiessuchas/ƚƓĭƚƩķƭ <br />OpenTabletostaggerthedaysthatmealsareofferedsothatpeoplecouldgotodifferentevents.The <br />venueschange.Aprofessionalkitchenisneededinordertohosttheevent.Thefirstmealisexpectedto <br />happeninOctoberatChurchofOurRedeemer. <br />UpdatetotheSchool/ƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻƭadhoccommitteeforyouthatriskΑHSCresponsetoschoolreport <br />waspresentedon5/18/15.Inaddition,theHSCpreparedaresponseintheformofahandoutthat <br />outlinedtheYouthServiceCouncilandtheHSCactivities. <br />ThemaingoaloftheYouthServicesCouncilistoidentifycommunityƒĻƒĬĻƩƭunmetneedsand <br />facilitateinterdepartmentalservices.Thereare18membersandithasbeenoperatingforthepast10 <br />years.TherewasdiscussionabouthowtodobetteratmarketingtheYSCandalsodiversifycommunity <br />volunteerstoincludesocialserviceprovidersandthehomelessworkinggroup. <br />InadditiontotheYSC,thereistheSHACΑschoolhealthadvisorycommittee.Thereislikelynotaneed <br />formorecommitteestofocusonatriskyouth.Inaddition,theHSCandYSChighlightedyouthservices <br />offeredandcollaborationwithpublicschoolstaff. <br /> <br />
