Town of Lexington <br />Human Services Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 14, 2015 <br />Present: Lea Gardner Elkin, Chair, Charlotte Rodgers, HSD Director, Bonnie Tempas, <br />Bette Borgheani, Gail Rodgers, Norm Cohen, Selectman, Pam Joshe, Gail Fields, <br />Kristie Demirev, HSD <br />1. Minutes approved <br />2. Kristie Demirev provided a HSD update: <br />a. The Youth Services Council has 5 perspective candidates for the student <br />representative position. <br />b. the recent Parent Academy was a big success with 154 parents attending. The <br />anxiety workshop was the most heavily attended. Resources were distributed. The <br />SADD Club from LHS was present. They coordinated food sales and were also <br />succussful in their fundraising. <br />c. The education on Thinking not Drinking is focussing on host responsibility and is <br />being coordinated with the PTA President's Council. <br />3. Charlotte and Kristie gave other HSD updates and stats including information on: <br />a, statistics of HSD cases <br />b. recreation scholarships -7 in March <br />c. referral call - 20 -25 <br />d. homelessness families - only 5 at this point <br />e. Mental Health First Aid - June 1 there will be a community conversationf. <br />f. Changes to the Recreation Department - will now be called Recreation and <br />Community Programming. Youth programming has moved to the Recreation <br />Department, and will be the Youth and Family Services Program. this will include a <br />team approach to not lose at risk community of youth. Focus will be on Wrokin with <br />Middle and High School youth. <br />4. Commity Center Update - There was an open house today. Much coordination <br />happening. Donations are still coming in. The goal of bringing young and old together. <br />There remains some governance issues that are being working out. The move in <br />Date is June 1 <br />5. Bill Blout and two other members of the Youth at Risk Ad Hoc Committee attended to <br />discuss their findings. These included: <br />a.Coorination between town, school, and community is needed. <br />b. A school Resource Officer and treatment (? through the town) is missing. <br />c. The library is very active for youth programming <br />
