M., to cast their ballots for the following officers : <br /> Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Secretary; Treasurer; Auditor; Attorney <br /> General; Representative in Congress; Councillor; Senator; Representative <br /> in General Court (1, 2 or 3 ); District Attorney; County Commissioner; <br /> Sheriff. <br /> QUESTION NO. 1 <br /> Do you approve of the adoption of an amendment to the constitution <br /> summarized below which was approved by the General Court in a joint <br /> session of the two branches held June 9, 1947, received 244 <br /> votes in the affirmative and 0 in the negative, and in a YES <br /> joint session of the two branches held June 8, 1949, re- <br /> ceived 242 votes in the affirmative and 7 in the negative; <br /> NO <br /> SUMMARY <br /> This proposed amendment of the Constitution provides for the, tite <br /> when the respective terms of office of the governor, lieutenant-governor <br /> and councillors shall begin and the time when their respective terms <br /> shall end. It also makes provision relative to the succession to the <br /> office of governor in the event of the death of the governor elect be- <br /> fore qualification for the office of governor; and it further makes <br /> provision relative to the succession to the office of governor in the <br /> event of the death of both the governor elect and the lieutenant- <br /> governor elect before qualification for their respective officer. <br /> QUESTION NO. 2 <br /> Do you approve of the adoption of an amendment to the con- <br /> stitution summarized below which was approved by the General Court <br /> in a joint session of the two branches held June 4, 1948, received <br /> 154 votes in the affirmative and 44 in the negative, and in a joint <br /> session of the two branches held June 8, 1949, received <br /> 160 votes in the affirmative and 93 in the negative? YES <br /> NO <br /> SUMMARY <br /> This proposed amendment to the Constitution provides for an in- <br /> crease in the number of signatures of qualified voters required upon <br /> an initiative or upon a referendum petition, and it further makes pro- <br /> vision for changes in legislative procedures thereon with reference to <br /> dates upon, or within which, acts shall be done in the various stages <br /> necessary to be taken upon such petitions. <br />
