MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE <br /> HELD AT THE TOWN OFFICE BUILDING, MONDAY <br /> EVENING, MAY 22, 1944 . <br /> Notification of this meeting was furnished to all mem- <br /> bers of the Committee. <br /> The meeting was opened in the office of the Town Account- <br /> ant at 8:05 P.M. by Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt, with the following <br /> members in attendance: <br /> Lewis L. Hoyt, Chairman <br /> Fred C. Newhall Carl E. Bryant <br /> Ronald D. Brown Harvey F. Winlock <br /> George M. Hynes Thacher Jenney <br /> Raymond L. White, Town Accountant <br /> Minutes of the Meetin: Held Ma 1 1944 <br /> It was regularly moved and voted to dispense with the <br /> reading of the minutes of the regular meeting held May 1, 1944. <br /> At 8: 10 P.M. George Emery, Chairman of the Board of <br /> Fire Engineers, was admitted to this meeting. <br /> Mr. Emery's presence at this meeting was to give <br /> details regarding the land located on Bedford Street, adjacent <br /> to F. K. Johnson' s Garage, which the Board of Fire Engineers <br /> approves as a site for new fire station. <br /> Mr. Emery stated that the B. F. Smith Company took <br /> borings at the approximate locations of the four corners of the <br /> proposed building. Hard gravel was struck at 11'0", 9 '0"; 8'0" <br /> and 6 '0". Mr. Emery further stated that they offered Mrs. Phelps <br /> $2,000.00 . the assessed valuation being $2,850.00. The area <br /> for site of a fire station would figure around $1,350.00. The <br /> Board has an option for the purchase of Phelps ' land at $4, 100.00. <br /> Fred Johnson wants a 30' 0" strip of land adjoining <br /> his Garage, known as Lot A, for which he is willing to pay $500.00; <br />
