Perry, <br /> Comptroller; L. Zehner; R. Souza <br /> Joe Burke, Superintendent of Public Works meat met with Committee to <br /> give information on his budgets. The following information is in addition <br /> to that supplied on the white sheets with the budgets. <br /> #5000 - Dues, T, uitions includes tuition for Am. Public Works Association <br /> Management Seminar (usually about $200) and tuition for B.C. <br /> Municipal Affairs courses fors supervisory personnel. Total <br /> requested is $500. <br /> #5150 - No desks are needed for additional personnel requested. File <br /> cabinet in this budget would belneeded whether or not additional <br /> irJ personnel are approved. There are now 13 employees + 2 summer employees. <br /> �—{ Equipment rental is for 5 vehicles . <br /> #5250 - 373-20 Selectmen request only $500 (not $4550) for roof repairs <br /> for slates; they will defer major roof repair until new building <br /> because the roof slope will probably be changed. <br /> They added $3,000 for emergency safety measures in Cary Memorial. <br /> $15,000 recommended by consultant to make Cary safe and suitable <br /> for Cary lectures and other present uses. The $3000 is the <br /> amount considered necessary for safety only. <br /> #5350 - Public Works Building, Mr. Burke says they need more space, <br /> especially cold storage space for seasonal equipment. <br /> #5400 - Highway Maintenance - Unexpended balance is to be carried over <br /> for bituminous concrete resurfacing for which a contract has been <br /> let. <br /> Mr. Burke discussed the Brook Cleaning item in this budget. All <br /> open brooks are overgrown and need excavating. Three brooks <br /> should be done low - Clematis, Brook near Valleyfield and the Brook <br /> on Bow St. - Mass. Ave. <br /> Damage to sidewalks by Contractors makes advisable a By-Law <br /> change. There is now no way to recover damages; some contractors <br /> who run over the sidewalk and damage it replace it on their own, <br /> some don't. <br /> #5440 - Road Machinery - Civil Defense Surplus separated out in this budget <br /> Mr. Burke recently bought for $100 a truck driven only 14,000 miles <br /> which can be used as a sander. He also buys small supplies and <br /> equipment. <br /> #5600 - Street Lights - Hold for Selectmen's recommendations on new lights. <br /> #5700 - Sewer Maintenance - Mr. Burke will want $2500 in addition to <br /> total $29,225 requested if federal grant for Lexington-Bedford <br /> sewer is not approved before Town Meeting. This would be for <br /> additional repairs on Myrtle Street Pumping Station. <br /> #5850 - Sanitary Land Fill - Selectmen approved $49,000, decreasing <br /> Police Detail to $3800 and eliminating money for Vehicle Use <br /> Permits. They authorize Mr. Burke to revise the existing rules <br /> so that stickers may be used, but to use money allotted to <br /> Police Detail, which can then be reduced. <br /> #6000 - Park Dept. Expenses - 320-09 Light, Heat and Power includes <br /> light for tennis courts which is being requested. <br /> Conservation maintenance is not included here. <br /> #6100 - Shade Tree - 259-02 Trees, shrubs iad has been increased by <br /> Selectmen to $3200 in order to provide additional trees on Mass. <br /> Ave. , Arlington end. <br /> Equipment rental is increased to pay for Aerial lift. <br /> Town Finance Committee Association - Winter Meeting, Wed.
