Possibility that Selectmen or others may take some action <br /> L.) was discusse_. Possible actions might include: <br /> 1. reducing budget by amount it is estimated kindergartens will <br /> cost (this a—umes School Ctee. has autonomy only over grades <br /> 1-12) <br /> 2. inserting Article approving or disapproving of implementing <br /> kindergarten, holdinit Art. 4 open until this is voted on. <br /> Meet with Selectmen next week before talking to School Committee to find <br /> out what Selectmen plan. <br /> School Budget – Leeting scheduled with School Committee, Mon. Jan. 16. <br /> School Administration costs include salary raise for School Comptroller <br /> from 6,0A to 018,000. Fitzgerald, Fred Bailey, Chief <br /> Spellman discussed their budgets. <br /> .ecluesting additional firemen. <br /> Effective manpower on duk has not increased 1961, in fact it has <br /> decreased because of decreased hours worked. <br /> Mr. Bailey presented a grpph showing recommendations of NFPA, of the <br /> Fire Commissioners, compared with the present Lexington force, for <br /> various populations. <br /> For 30,00C population, NFPA recommends 75 men <br /> Commissioners 59 <br /> Lex. had 48 <br /> By 1970, Commissioners project need for 73 men, we now have 50 <br /> They would like to add 5 men per year for 4 years, to have 70 in 1970. <br /> This will be sufficient, they believe, for the two fire stations. If a <br /> Third Station is added, we need 14 additional men. Were they to assume <br /> less than a full complement available at all times (no sick leave, <br /> vacation, men away with ambulance or rescue equipment) and 3 call men <br /> responding, the need might be increased further by up to 10 men. <br /> Station , 3 – no immediate need for third station. They think it better <br /> to wait and see how and where population grows before deciding where a <br /> third station should be located. <br /> Example of need for additional firemen given. Recently, with 2 men on <br /> �-` vacation, 2 on ambulance, 2 on rescue, there were only 7 men available <br /> to answer a church alarm . While they were responding, another box was <br /> rung. Tile need is to increase men available for immediate response; <br /> after 20 min. more men begin to become available from off–duty men, mutual <br /> _ <br />
