Action .on Kindergartens School Committee turned down Selectmen's request to have a special Article e–i on Warrant. Possibility that Selectmen or others may take some action L.) was discusse_. Possible actions might include: 1. reducing budget by amount it is estimated kindergartens will cost (this a—umes School Ctee. has autonomy only over grades 1-12) 2. inserting Article approving or disapproving of implementing kindergarten, holdinit Art. 4 open until this is voted on. Meet with Selectmen next week before talking to School Committee to find out what Selectmen plan. School Budget – Leeting scheduled with School Committee, Mon. Jan. 16. School Administration costs include salary raise for School Comptroller from 6,0A to 018,000. Toun Comptroller, who oversees School Comptroller8s work, is paid 5112,000. Office Machine Account Dick Perry suggests giving this the number X2925 – Office Mach. , cap. outlay 02930 – Maintenance and repairs Committee agreed to this number change. Fire Commissioners Stanley ,tobbins, aim. Fitzgerald, Fred Bailey, Chief Spellman discussed their budgets. .ecluesting additional firemen. Effective manpower on duk has not increased 1961, in fact it has decreased because of decreased hours worked. Mr. Bailey presented a grpph showing recommendations of NFPA, of the Fire Commissioners, compared with the present Lexington force, for various populations. For 30,00C population, NFPA recommends 75 men Commissioners 59 Lex. had 48 By 1970, Commissioners project need for 73 men, we now have 50 They would like to add 5 men per year for 4 years, to have 70 in 1970. This will be sufficient, they believe, for the two fire stations. If a Third Station is added, we need 14 additional men. Were they to assume less than a full complement available at all times (no sick leave, vacation, men away with ambulance or rescue equipment) and 3 call men responding, the need might be increased further by up to 10 men. Station , 3 – no immediate need for third station. They think it better to wait and see how and where population grows before deciding where a third station should be located. Example of need for additional firemen given. Recently, with 2 men on �-` vacation, 2 on ambulance, 2 on rescue, there were only 7 men available to answer a church alarm . While they were responding, another box was rung. Tile need is to increase men available for immediate response; after 20 min. more men begin to become available from off–duty men, mutual _
