TOWNOFLEXINGTON
AdhocCommunityCenterAdvisoryCommittee(AhCCAC)
ProgramsGroup
Minutes of Meeting of April 14, 2014 Final
A meeting of the Ad hoc Community Center Advisory Committee Programs Group was held
on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM in theParker Room at the Town Office Building,
1625 Massachusetts Avenue. A quorum of 5 was present at 10:05 AM.
Members Present: Laura Hussong, Chair; Jon Himmel, Florence Koplow, Charlotte Rodgers
(Director, Human Services Department), Karen Simmons (Director, Recreation Department), Leslie
Zales, Sheila Butts (Assistant Director, Recreation Department)
Members Absent:
Also present: Robert Pressman, citizen
Meeting called to order at 10:05 AM
Minutes:
The minutes of the April 14, 2014 meeting were approved unanimously.
Motion: Florence Koplow/Second: Jon Himmel.
Going forward, Florence would like us to pay attention to and note in the minutes when we discuss
items that are matters of governance as well as of programming.
Augmented Programs Matrix:
Jon explained the matrix he created. The categories and numbering are the same as those in the
original Recreation/Human Services matrix. The augmented matrix presented is still missing the
Recreation wish list that was created for the CCTF. Laura forgot to send it to Jon, but will send it to
him so it can be added. Other things missing are: the December 14 Open House comments,
suggestions from Senior Center boxes and bulletin boards, the suggestions from the Recreation
survey and focus groups that were recently completed. Once all the data are entered, Jon will be able
to eliminate duplicate activities.
We want all the programs currently at the Senior Center to be available at the Community Center.
The issues of cost, and who pays what amount, are complicated by the audience: some programs are
funded through grants for seniors, and are free or low cost for them. How that will work at the
Community Center in the intergenerational environment is an issue of program and governance.
Charlotte is going to prepare a presentation on this, specifically on managing lunches at the current
Senior Center, for our next meeting.
