<br />BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br />Wednesday, March 19, 7:00 P.M. <br />Parker Room, Town Hall Building <br />1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA <br />Board of Health Members in Attendance: <br />Wendy Heiger- Bernays, PhD, Chair, Burt Perlmutter, MD, John J. Flynn, J.D., Sharon MacKenzie R.N., CCM, <br />David S. Geller, M.D <br />Health Division Attendees: <br />Gerard F. Cody, Health Director <br />Linda Rainville, Clerk <br />1.) Hearing: <br />Tobacco and Youth Access Regulations <br />Mr. Cody read the hearing procedures to the attendees. He introduced the Members of the panel. <br />He explained the rules of the hearing. All Attendees signed in. Several people spoke regarding <br />the Proposed Tobacco Regulation changes. <br />DJ Wilson, Mass. Municipal Assoc. spoke regarding the statistics of towns in Mass that have <br />changed the purchase age of tobacco products. <br />Jeanine Flaherty, Tobacco Control/Public Health Consultant, supports proposed changes. <br />Ken Camille, Cumberland Farms, Lexington, spoke against the changes. He felt the changes <br />would hurt local businesses, forcing customers to go to surrounding towns to purchase tobacco <br />products. <br />Matt Reynolds, student Lexington High School, spoke in support of the proposed changes. He <br />stated 2.12% of tobacco sales are to customers between 18 and 21 years of age. If the purchase <br />age is raised to 21, most students would not be able to travel to other towns to purchase tobacco <br />products on a regular basis. <br />Mr. Cody explained that he has received emails regarding the proposal to raise the purchase age <br />of tobacco products.
